THEATRE a platform where opinions are voiced, revolts are dared and most importantly, a medium through which audiences are entertained and educated. With cinema coming in, theatre slowly lost its charm and influence and the theatrical arts started fading away from the public. While Theatre picked up societal issues and generated awareness where ambiguity existed, Cinema provided people with a 3-hour paradise.
The ADITYA BIRLA GROUP has positioned itself as a group that is committed to encouraging Indian culture and building the community. AADYAM meaning ‘first of its kind’ an Aditya Birla Group Initiative is working towards becoming India’s gateway to artistic expression for meaningful experiences and capacity audiences. Aadyam is providing a platform where theatre groups could focus on their creative pursuits while leaving production-related disquiet in the trusted hands of this initiative.
I did an internship at Oranjuice Entertainment. This company organised events for Aadyam Theatre groups. When I interned Season 3 was going on and was fortunate enough to be spectator of shows Anand Express and Bandish 20-20000Hz. Anand Express was youth centric, a story of 4 friends and it was a super-hit show, if they wouldn’t have got this loyal brand to help them with production-related work, it would have been difficult to reach the crowd and focus on their stage show. It is platform like this which is also helping them in gaining confidence again to do stage plays at greater level. For me watching these shows was something very new and opened my eyes that there is far more talent than cinema shows. There are many untold stories that need to be narrated. These groups are there to narrate those limitless stories. They are imaginative yet realistic storyteller. Their stories keep the audience spellbind.
This is an initiate by Aditya Birla Group less known to people. It is mostly in Delhi and Mumbai people know about it as they are presently organizing shows in these cities. But the courage they have given to theatre groups led them to showcase their story in other cities also. In my hometown Indore also some of these groups have performed. It helps a lot to the people who try to go out of the league to do something for their living when a big name like this provides platform to them.
There are many other reasons of Aditya Birla Group to be big in my life from clothing to education and made our life accessible but this is one of those which may not have directly did something big in my life, but did greater good for the society of theatre. ‘Your Life’ may not just be ‘my’ life, it can represent a larger ‘you’.
How Have You Made An Impact
Has any daughter ever been called by their parents as ‘this is my boy’ when they felt proud of you? I was one among these. It made me feel very courageous when they used to say me this. It bought me a feeling of being strong enough to handle my situations, to not step back from my responsibilities. All this feeling was great till the time I realized why not say ‘this is my girl’. Why has a boy always been an analogy for brave, courageous, strong child? This was the question that gave me kick.
That day I went to my parents and discussed this. It was not long a discussion when they agreed with me and from that day started calling me ‘this is my girl’ whenever they appreciated me. Physical strength is one thing where gender difference comes at the very moment whenever it is about lifting something even at home. If seen from the science perspective, yes there are differences but it is not as if females can’t improve on their physical strength. More than that it is not that they always need help of a male to lift something from a height or a bag full of vegetable but it can be seen in homes where they are said “don’t do this, let your father, brother or husband do it”. Why? This thing has always been sort of intolerant to me and which gave me a mouth to say, ‘wait, I can do it on my own’ to various things I may fail at first but as it is said, “you won’t know what you can until you do”. I have more sisters than brothers in my family, and I am proud enough to say that being the eldest of all, seeing me, they have also broken the stereotype.
2018 had been the year when I dedicated my time to prepare for CAT, but unfortunately just 5 days before the exam I was hospitalized for chikungunya. That time all I thought was to be well enough to go and give my best in the paper. Doctors said you need bed rest even after discharge. But I was firm enough on my decision, though couldn’t score well that year but I gained confidence that if I can get 96 percentiles in this situation then definitely, I can crack the exam next year. While I was preparing for CAT, I started weight lifting and then there is social media which helps you connect with people. So, I started putting my videos and photos and not many but was able to influence some of my friends to work on their fitness. Any form of physical exercise is not just physical but also mental exercise. It increases our focus, makes us more disciplined and also does energies us. In 2019, I was able to crack it and here I am in one of the top b-schools of India.
“It is easier said than done”, but no one ever said, you can’t achieve what you have worked hard for. “Break the stereotype and earn what you yearn” is something I try to follow and would say everyone can try to follow.
