From IIT To SIBM Bengaluru – My Roadmap To Success
Unlike most of the MBA aspirants, my journey to pursue an MBA did not start at T.I.M.E., one of the most popular coaching centres for CAT preparation, but at Byjus. And the reason why I am mentioning this is to highlight the immense impact Mr. Byju Raveendran, the founder of Byju’s Classes, had on my life. He used to say that pursuing an MBA is not about getting a postgraduate degree, but about buying ‘2 years’ of your life for YOURSELF from YOURSELF. This thought has motivated me through all walks of life.
CAT did not go as expected but my journey did not end there. I wanted to get into one of the top three colleges of Symbiosis and with my preparation, I ensured that I converted SIBM Bengaluru and SIIB Pune. Based on the guidance of the alumni and the teachers of both the colleges and other statistical parameters like placements, I decided to join SIBM B.
Leaving my job at ‘Tally’ was quite a difficult decision for me. Being a part of an organisation for close to four years makes it more of a family to you. During my stint at Tally, I learned the importance of teamwork and intricacies of business aspects required in product development. But when the offer from SIBM B came along, I knew it was time for a change. This college has grown to momentous heights within 10 years of its inception and I wanted to be a part of this success story.
Joining SIBM B proved to be a wise decision forme. It was here in this college that I got a chance to explore new things, stepped out of my comfort zone and found my true calling. The pedagogy at SIBM B is a balanced mix of lectures, assignments, group exercise, case studies, presentations and live projects. It pushes you to go beyond your limits and brings out the best in you.
My day starts at 7:00 am and goes on till midnight. And as hectic as my daily routine is, I always learn something new at the end of the day which makes the whole process worth it. Life in an MBA college teaches you to manage your time efficiently, multi-task, and juggle work with your family and friends. The committees and clubs of the college help you grow on a personal level.
SIBM B gave me an opportunity to intern at Kinara Capital, one of the most well-known NBFCs in India. I am grateful for this opportunity as I got to work here in the Finance Department under the direct guidance of senior management team of this organisation.
“One way to get the most out of anything is to look upon it as an adventure” – this quote from William Feather always inspires me to strive and excel. This one year has taught me a lot of things and academia is just a small part of it. I was able to connect the concepts taught here to the things I learnt at my workplace. One year at SIBM B has transformed me into a better version of myself.
