The orientation week gives you a peek into the life at campus and an idea about what to expect and how to prepare for what you don’t expect. With each hand raised for an answer to a question you don’t know, your arrogance shrinks back to the size it was during your examination preparation days. You look around you and the friends who were on a similar boat as yours yesterday, are suddenly riding a swanky yacht. Surprisingly, all of them have one, but you.
Your friends who have spent an year more than you at campus, take you through a long list of tasks you have to accomplish before your time runs out. You have to carry all the essential supplies on your boat and see that you make it through to the other end of the shore. The task is daunting. You fear failure. You know you will have several guides on your way to the other end, but you are skeptical. Taking a long breath, you get started. The aim is to keep shorter milestones and keep going, with a steady and consistent pace. You know you will be there, if only you remember to keep rowing and keep growing.
The journey is long and arduous and exhausting, but on the other end of the shore is a beautiful island, reachable only to those who believe they can reach it, one small step at a time.
