ABG and life so far - Sushmita Verma,XIMB

The training, exposure and guidance that my father was given during his stint at the ABG have turned him into the successful professional that he is today.

Apart from training their employees to achieve professional excellence the group also takes care of its employees on a personal front. When my father was hospitalised while working for the group, they were extremely supportive and provided our family with every possible assistance.

It was because of this healthy work culture that I feel like it would be a privilege for me to get the opportunity to work for a group which not only seeks to excel in its work but also values its employees and considers them their most important resource. 

I grew up in a home where ambition was extremely important. My father had started picking out school brochures and planning my career trajectory even before I was born and always had high expectations from me.

Throughout my school life, we kept shifting from one city to another because of my father’s transferable job and by the time I finished my schooling I had studied in 12 different schools in different cities. While studying and living in so many different cities all over the country and world gave me exposure to diverse cultures along with the opportunity to interact with people from different backgrounds it also brought with it a bag of cons filled with issues like adjusting to a new city and school, coping up with the changes in the curriculum since I studied in different boards. I also had to go through bullying which affected my grades but I brought myself out of that situation by fighting back as well as improving myself to become one of the best students in the class.

After my schooling, I faced a lot of struggles in my personal and professional life which resulted in me suffering from depression and anxiety. The fact that I was unable to live up to the expectations my father and I had from myself was unacceptable to me. It was difficult for me to concentrate on my work and education and I felt like I had already lost the race and no matter what I do I’ll never be successful.

It was during this phase that my family and friends motivated me by reminding me who I was before these failures, they made me recall my dreams and ambitions. I saw my father a 55-year-old man working till 2 am every day to ensure efficiency in his work, I saw friends who had bounced back from failures living happy and successful lives. That motivated me to work hard towards my dreams because if they could do it then so can I.  

With the support and love of my friends and family, I motivated myself to get better and slowly started working towards building the future that I had always dreamed of having. My hard work paid off and today I am a first-year student at XIMB, but my journey has just begun because now I want to maximise my learning in the next two years and be the best version of myself that I can be.
