Coming from the very small town of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, I was inclined towards studies(
10th-93.67%,12th- 91%, UG-8.43/10), especially mathematics. In 2017, I had sit for JEE Mains, Advanced, and WBJEE, through which I was admitted to the prestigious
Jadavpur University, Mechanical Engineering Department. Fast forward to 2020, when I was in my fourth year, a subject called "Industrial Management" was taught. I developed a deep interest in that subject (don't ask about the rest subjects) and decided to do a project on that. The more I was involved in the major project about operations, the more I liked the subject. At this point, I decided to pursue an MBA in Operations and Supply Chain to gain the knowledge first and use it later in my corporate life.
But ah! Life had other plans! Sitting for CAT 2020, VARC became my Achille's Heel. I could score a mere 50.65%ile on that paper. I was devastated. Was it my preparation or my luck? Turns out, I was scared about VARC even before my preparation started. This fear turned out to be the worst enemy. However, as luck smiled upon me, I went to join ITC Ltd as an Operations Manager! You might not know but ITC Ltd never hired core engineers, but our batch was the first of a kind! After working there for around 10 months, the desire to prepare for CAT again intensified when I met my colleagues from different B-schools who had pursued Operations. So, I took a risky move, resigned in July 2022, and started preparing again.

This time, I had already decided that I will work more on the subject that wreaked havoc in 2020. As said, I read articles from different genres and editorials to boost my reading speed. Then I took mocks (IMS and Cracku), where I solved all the sectional tests first. I remember I had to sit for a long time dealing with VARC so that the fear minimizes as much as possible. On D-Day, I told myself that this time, I will focus on my accuracy in VARC rather than solving more and more. You can see the results:
