It is definitely an understatement to say that ABG (Aditya Birla Group) is one of the most reputed and mammoth conglomerates of the nation. Having deep roots and historical significance with our culture is an added advantage and an icing on the cake. Forgetting the monetary and business aspects of the conglomerate which a skeptic and a cynic would consider a motive that is deeply ingrained in capitalism and is profit-oriented, ABG is much more than that. The fact that ABG topped twice in 13/14 and 14/15 consecutively for Corporate Image Monitor substantiates my claim
ABG isn’t restricted to mindless expansion, and it is rooted in the ability to provide value and apex performance along the way and make an example out of Business Operations. All subsidiaries of ABG, be it cement, fashion, clothing or finance are driven by a zeal for perfection and utmost regard for ethics and values. It is then not a surprise that all of them are considered the best in their segment, if not the very best. Personally having used the UltraTech cement in the past, I was beyond impressed by their price and value provided. I then tried digging in deeper to know how they maintained such quality and service with such stiff competition from ACC etc and I realized they have strenuous ardent procedures in the manufacturing plant that ensure its top-notch quality. Local laborers and even house owners are rarely skeptical to then use UltraTech cement.
Similarly, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England, etc. are some of the many brands under the roof of ABG that further shows an extension of their processes and vision. All the brands target the middle-class segment and the largest segment of clothing in India, but they never cut corners by cutting costs through sacrificing quality and reducing the price. As a result, they are easily the most popular and sought after brands for the middle segment.
What is commendable is the attitude of going forward and expanding incessantly in such a short period of time against all odds while not for a single moment sacrificing the morals and quality. This is something I personally identify with a lot as I am someone who places principles and morals as a predecessor to profits and results, and in the modern era, it is not rare to see the world going in a totally opposite direction making these philosophies and ideas an archaic concept. I have definitely found another ally in this secluded field in IIM Rohtak which is a B-school founded and run on this very policy and it was one of the reasons I joined this college while declining other offers from similar institutes.
Through the academic rigor followed at IIM Rohtak, I have found myself being able to solve a plethora of conundrums ranging from business problems we regularly find in our curriculum to beating all odds in the practical areas of my Summer Internships and live projects where I did not take the short cut leaving the “right” path in the process but believed in my capabilities and character. A convergence of such precious and rapidly diminishing ideas are a sight to behold in the modern era and should be taken in cognizance by every individual
