Internship being a very significant part of an MBA student's life,I was also very concerned about getting a good experience during my internship period.I was thinking until the very last minute about my decision of joining UrbanClap ,thoughts like "Will it give me the right opportunity to explore ?","What if I regret working at a startup?" won't leave my head. But I must say joining UC has given me a right kind of experience-nor out of the world neither its the worst kind .It was the right mixture, giving me the freedom to experiment and learn from my own mistakes. It not only increases my confidence, but also helped me grow my knowledge base.I was working as a research intern in Mens Grooming Category. I really liked my work there but I hated the long hours which are the results of UC following the same old methods. But my mentor was cool and understand my issues with the way work was being done,She listened to my problems and the solutions I have come up with and let me apply those and see the results myself. I have my lows too when something I changed, resulted in even more work for me but in end I had come up with some great ideas reducing my work and increasing results at the same time whether its by using whats-app for marketing or digging deeper into datasheets-" a win -win situation both for UC and Me".I loved the work culture of UC ,my favorite being the tea breaks with my colleagues and Fridays after parties.I liked the thing that there were no separate cabins for higher level employees, everyone worked together and it was easy to approach people and make friends.I have friends now working in different roles whether its on-boarding professionals on UC platform, churn, fitness and yoga etc.The biggest skill I learnt was the art of handling people, and focusing on getting your work done.I had to be patient all the time whether taking to angry customers, troubled professionals.
I still cannot forget my interview at Urbanclap. It was not that difficult to crack but neither was it very easy. I was late by 15 mins as it was my first time travelling to Gurugram alone. I got a call from my interviewer and future mentor. She asked general questions regarding college, degree, family, aspirations so on.I tried to answers all questions with confidence but I was a little nervous,She made me feel comfortable and explained the job role very well. So I would suggest anyone going for an interview at UC to be confident and not rush through things. The most important thing your interviewer will be looking for is a right kind of attitude and good communication skills. Just be yourself.
My mentor was of the same age as me so I was on first name-basis with her. She introduced me to whole office -different categories, positions,CEO's,senior manager etc. She made me get a pedicure done from a professional inside training rooms of UC so I can understand the quality of service UC provide and how its different from a local salon. She guided me at different stages of my internship whether its talking to professionals, handling data etc.
