A.Footprint- IIM Kashipur
Sustainable business models are hard to find, especially with the scale and size at which Aditya Birla group is functioning. From textile to telecom to chemicals to infrastructure, the group has left no stones unturned. Knowingly or unknowingly at some point of time in life every Indian would have used one of the company’s product. Such is the legacy, this company holds. The conglomerate handles diverse business portfolios and it has cemented trust in the mindset of a billion Indians.
Being a Civil engineer any laymen onsite would know that the quality of Ultratech cements is unmatched. Being an industry leader also brings responsibilities and the product list of White Cement, Wall Care Putty, Textura & Level Plast have been recognised by IGBC for use in Green Buildings. Continuous innovation and development and being industry ready in all fronts inspires a sustainability enthusiast like me. The products imbibe a sense of being socially responsible among the user with all the background work involved in creating the product.
Apart from being an industry leader in many manufacturing industries, the CSR Wing of the group has also enlightened the lives of countless individuals across pan India. Going beyond the usual stereotypes of business and treating over a million people through medical camps across 5000 villages ,the responsibility is greater than what was before. As a child the logo brought happiness and a sense of trust to me, carrying forward the legacy through a hundred years I see the company’s vision and mission aligned towards a better tomorrow both on business and social front.
B.How I overcame challenges to achieve ambitions in life so far.
My father is a self made person. Having started from scratch I saw various stages of his developments at different settings of my childhood. I was fortunate to have witnessed a number of construction projects right from a very early age. On site we had to manage men, material, time and money. Everyday provided new challenges, though it was repetition of the same procedure. Having seen all this, I was fascinated with way things worked and tried to involve myself in the work. I enjoy applying resources and people to get difficult things done and in the process learn from the experience. These experiences kindled the leader in me and hence I started taking responsibility right from a very early age. I had been part of the school and college football teams and lead the side through victory and defeat.
The next phase in life created a completely new set of challenges. College paved way for me to be competitive with one of the best minds in the state. I became the President of Association of Civil engineering in college which provided a platform to grow my skillset. I have always believed that tough environments bring out the tougher person in one’s self. An IIM dream seemed distant but persistent hard work and all the above experience helped me achieve it. Hoping to learn and evolve in this new challenge.
