The first year of MBA is mainly focused on the Internships. While pursuing PGDM in Finance from NMIMS Bangalore, I got the opportunity to intern with one of the leading finance companies-
Dell Technologies.
I got placed for the internship with Dell in the end of September. The whole process consisted of four rounds in total. The first round consisted of a Group Discussion with around 10 people in a group. The group discussion was followed by a personal interview round which tested my technical knowledge related to finance. Next was an HR round where we interacted with the HRs and got an opportunity to clarify the doubts or questions we might have. The next was the Director’s round which consisted of the testing of the overall personality, subject knowledge and competence. The whole process was managed in a very organised way and ended with converting the internship.
We got our offer letters in no day time. The company is so employee friendly that we used to get personalized wishes for the festivals and birthdays. It shows how much the company considers you a part of it.
After some time, we were assigned some buddies who were already the employees of Dell to help us with the fulfilment of on-boarding formalities. They also helped us around once we started our internship with the adjustment to the office environment.
The internship joining date approached in no time and we were handed our roles and the departments in which we had to work on the Induction day itself. The company mentors were allotted to everyone and a brief introduction to the project was provided.
The main work started from the next day and I was offered a project which was managed by an employee in Ireland. This was a great opportunity for me as I got to work on a project which had an International team. My onsite manager was very helpful as he briefed me about the project and made me aware of the respective people that I would be contacting in this journey of 2 months.
The first week had a lot of introductory sessions to the organisation, the department, the team that I had to work with and with some people across the globe that I had to work with.
The project was a short one which was completed by me before the end of the internship and with the support of my mentors, I was able to go on-board with another project which was equally value additive to the organisation.
Because I had the experience to work on two different projects the learning was quite varied and diverse from both of them. I got to interact with the global team of Dell, got to hone my skills and made relations with people across various fields in Finance at Dell.
My mentors at Dell played a very big role in my successful completion of the internship. They were always the guiding light whenever I was about to deviate from the correct path. They have taken one on one sessions with me regarding how can I make the best use of this opportunity and in what other ways I can make the most of this internship. They also made me aware of what the market wants today and how I need to keep evolving with time if one has to be always at the top of the market. These insights will stay with me throughout my life.
Overall, the experience and the learning at Dell is commendable. The environment that they create for everyone doesn’t make anyone feel like an outsider. It is an employee-centric organization and the employees make Dell a very big and a happy family.
