Hello readers, let me introduce you Writuparna Nath from IIM Ranchi. Writuparna is an experienced Product Design Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the mechanical and industrial engineering industry. She is currently pursuing Post Graduation in Human Resource Management from IIM Ranchi. She is passionate about working in an energetic environment that fuels curiosity and nurtures human talent. She is a passionate photographer and a travel vlogger.  In this interview, she shares her experience during her internship with Deloitte and throws light on various stages of the internship.  Without further ado, let's begin.

Mahantesh: Tell us in brief about how you prepared for summer placement interviews?

Writuparna: I brushed up the basics of all the subjects we had visited till then and ensured I had a good knowledge of my favourite subject. The next step was to gather enough information about the company and the role being offered. I tried to understand the mission, vision and values of the company and what attributes they look for in a candidate.

M: What is the summer internship process like for Deloitte?

W: There were 3 rounds in the process. Each round was an elimination round. 1.Case Study: We were divided into teams of 5 and handed over a case where we had to discuss with the team and come up with HR interventions required for cultural assimilation for an M&A scenario 2. Pictorial Extempore: Here we were called individually, we had to pick up one picture from a basket of pictures and speak on that visual for a minute 3. PI: This was a personal interview round where the panel asked questions about the academics and work experience. It revolved around the details cited in my CV and they probed further and there asked me about my area of interest in HR and what kind of project I would like to work on.

M: What are the reasons you think you cracked the interview?

W: I was my authentic self in the interview, I tried answering all the questions relating them to my personal and professional experiences and thought through my answers well before answering. I highlighted the points which would portray me as a good fit for the company and I guess that worked

M: Tell us about your day to day work as an intern at Deloitte

W: Deloitte gives you a very flexible environment to bring your ideas to the table. I can’t put it down in terms of hours because it was different on different days. I tried to be in office as early as possible which gave me time to plan the activities of the day before the meetings commenced. Every day before wrapping up the work I would plan my meetings and appointments for the next day. My internship was a lot about interviews and I had set up meetings with 50 plus people in 8 weeks. So after every meeting, I would come back and jot down the key takeaways before I went to the next meeting which helped me streamline my questions better for the next meeting. Apart from the project work, we regularly had candid sessions with the leaders where they shared various words of wisdom. It also involved a lot of coffee and eating, Deloitte University spoils you with options :D

M: What did you do right to achieve the PPO from Deloitte?

W: I always made sure I followed up regularly with my mentors and sponsors and peer network on whatever I was working, I actively sought their advice and tried to deliver more than what was asked in the problem statement. And I had pitched my interventions to many leaders and peer network before I refined them for the final delivery which helped in getting various perspectives and helped me prepare well for the final review

M: What are the most cherishable moments of your internship?

W: My internship at Deloitte gave me an opportunity to pitch my ideas to the top leaders there and on various occasions, I received appreciation mails from them appreciating my confidence and thought process, I think that boosted my performance throughout. I also made some really amazing friends there and we are still in touch.
