How Aditya Birla Group touched my life
I come from a small town in Delhi, a place where we had very few kirana stores to buy daily staples from. To buy groceries we had to walk an extra mile to a different store and I used to see my mother doing this exercise almost every day. I used to see her struggle for 2 hours in Delhi’s scorching sun everyday just to buy groceries and staples for our home.
These stores also did not have a proper billing system in place which led to confusion and quarrels with the shopkeepers. On a whole, the ecosystem of kirana stores was not very healthy. And it was not just the story of my family but each and every family in my neighborhood went through the same struggle. I remember once our whole family got stomach infection because the staples my mother had got from one of the kirana stores was spoiled, and at that time we used to get loose staples. We all craved for a solution to end this misery. One day my father told me that a store is being built in a nearby vicinity where we will be getting everything, from staples to groceries under one roof. And moreover, that place will be air conditioned. I still remember how I used to go with my friends on my bicycle to check on the construction of that place, waiting for it to be completed as soon as possible. Finally, the day was here when the store was inaugurated and was named as “MORE”. My whole family went to the store to see the products being sold. It was a complete paradise for me as it had ice creams, cold drinks, savories and chocolates all under one roof and that too air conditioned. For several days I went to the store daily with my friends and I remember playing hide and seek with them in the grand store of MORE.
More supermarket helped in making life of my mother and several other households very easy and convenient. From getting a proper bill to hygienic and packaged products we got a solution to all our problems. And thank fully my mother did not have to toil the streets of Inderpuri anymore to fill our stomachs. This is how Aditya Birla Group has touched my life and possibly of million other households as well.
Making an impact irrespective of challenges faced
Joining IIFT Delhi was nothing short of a dream come true for me. I always had an ambition of studying in one of India’s top B-school. I started working on this dream 3 years back when I was in the final year of my engineering. Like every other MBA aspirant, I joined a CAT coaching institute and joined the rat race of competing with others. I scored 92.10%ile in CAT 2017 and went onto join an MBA program at Delhi School of Economics, Delhi. This is when I faced the first hurdle of my journey. Soon after joining the MBA program, I fell ill to jaundice and missed the crucial first 2 months of my MBA. I was devastated and had to drop out of the program as my health conditions did not allow me to take the rigor of the MBA program that year. Moving on I started preparing for management entrance exams again, this time with even more dedication and higher aims. I wrote CAT 2018 but could not do well. I did not receive calls from even a single institute. This was the second hurdle I faced as my confidence was shattered.
To bring back positivity in my life, I got a job and started working at BYJUS as a sales associate. This was the most challenging yet beautiful part of my journey. Working at BYJUS
taught me about time management, professionalism and how to respect goals and targets. At BYJUS, I had a client facing role where I got to interact with multiple client coming from different backgrounds and ethnicities. It taught me how to adapt to different situations because psychology of every client used to be different. Challenging part was studying for MBA entrance exams alongside my hectic schedule at BYJUS. And the beautiful part was that I realized where my strength lied, in sales. I tried working with maximum efficiency everyday so that I was able to meet my targets on daily basis and study as well. I was consistently ranked under the top 20 BDA’s at BYJUS and got a lot of recognition from my seniors. My AVP assigned me multiple new projects due to my good performance and I got the highest appraisal after my annual performance review. Simultaneously I was able to perform well in my MBA entrance exams as well. I received calls from many prestigious B- schools of India and this time I grabbed the opportunity. When I look back at my journey, I see struggle, perseverance, smart work and lot of learnings. Now I am a proud student of IIFT Delhi from the batch of 2019-20.
