All fashion brands are about looking good. Being human is about doing good. Here is a brand that blends both looking and doing good. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, 0which is known as ABFRL, is India's billion-dollar pure-play fashion powerhouse. It has an elegant bouquet of leading fashion brands and retail formats. It was an immense pleasure to interview Mr. Jayarajan KR, VP Operations of ABFRL during which he shared his valuable insights with us. Question: Could you please take us through your journey so far in ABG? I must say it's an exhilarating one. It has been a beautiful journey with ABG for the last 19 years in various operational responsibilities. The responsibilities I handled range from Factory Manager to VP Operations. I have also played a crucial role in setting up greenfield Sites and Factories. In ABFRL, I am responsible for Factory Productivity, Product Quality, Cost reduction, Training and Development of team members and Profitability of the Manufacturing Operation as well as new Projects execution. Question: What is it like to work in ABG? What are the values that drive ABG? ABG is an extremely admired and employee-friendly organization. ABG is also ranked fourth in the world and the Asia Pacific in the 'Top Companies for Leaders' study 2011, conducted by Aon Hewitt, Fortune Magazine and RBL. It is awarded as the best employer award by Aon for the third time in the last seven years. The values of ABG, such as integrity, commitment, passion, seamlessness, and speed, are fully embedded in every employees' activities. These values are ingrained in every employee, and each one strives to follow it in their line of work. Question: What according to you are the factors responsible for the success of ABFRL? I would attribute two main factors i.e, the clear vision and values of the organization for the success of ABG as a whole. ABG works towards achieving the leadership position in every business it is in. It continually strives towards ensuring continuous improvements in product and process. This will, in turn, provide high value to customers. We at ABFRL, assure freshness in every aspect by meeting the fashion needs of the target customers. We value customer feedback. This is done by capturing customer feedback through post-purchase. Based on the feedback received, the appropriate corrective measures are taken. Question: What are some of the exciting things about ABFRL? At ABFRL, we are committed to giving back more than what we take from our ecosystem. ABFRL has always been a market leader and stands out from the rest through its unique initiatives. One such effort is our sustainability program. It is guided by the three broad pillars of Responsible Stewardship, Stakeholder Engagement, and Future Proofing. ABFRL was awarded for their initiatives as the best Sustainable business in India Terri & Frost and Sullivan award in June 2019. We have been creating a common framework to help our businesses align their performance with international standards. This will ensure stakeholder value and help us stay within the shrinking operating space that will be created by pressures due to global and local mega-trends such as climate change, water scarcity, population migration, etc. We strongly believe in sustainable development. Question: What is your opinion on ABGLP Woo Me Competition? I must say it's a good initiative which creates a bridge between ABG and the campus. Through this competition, we know more about students and colleges. Students understand more about ABG. It's a win-win situation. Question: What is your message to the students and young professionals? It's about the value system. Adhering to the value system is very important for the success of any professional. Constant learning and upgrading are the key. Learning opportunities have to be utilized fully. Another important factor is developing leadership skills. To all the students out there, please remember that there is no alternative to hard work. Aim for excellence in life, and success will follow you. I wish all the best to the students in their endeavours.
