Taking our mind back to the era that was 1857, if prompted to think about an event revolutionary and life altering enough to have an impact on the generations to come, The Revolution of 1857 comes to our mind, an event changing the lives of at least one and a half billion people living today, more than a hundred and fifty years from that era. Names like Rani Lakshmibai, Mangal Pandey and Tantia Tope come to our mind. Among all this, a name, Seth Shiv Narayan Birla, that remains relatively unknown and an event, opening of the Birla Group that probably was mellowed down was too introduced to our nation. And still to this date, that quality of being a part of something that’s bigger than themselves and yet remaining behind the curtains is the USP of Aditya Birla Group. Because, this is how they have worked ever since. We don’t even know how deeply connected to our roots this brand is. We know the name BIRLA but what we don’t know is how they impact our life and a billion more lives around us. The first mobile network for so many people (me included) of this generation, idea. Walking with their “Walk n Talk” movement and having those long conversations that now our busy lives won’t let us have, would be a memory always cherished. The Vodafone pug everyone so adored that every colony got one of those. The new house our Father built and we playing around the fort made out of countless sacks of UltraTech cement lying around. The Tiffin, so lovingly packed by our mothers, that we still miss the feel of unwrapping that aluminium foil. The Pantaloons shirts we worn on our first dates to the Grasim suits we worn to our sister’s wedding. The dream college all of us engineers applied for, BITS Pilani wanting to be a part of a legacy we still didn’t fully understand. Aditya Birla Group has always been there, being a part of our lives, helping us in kneading these little memories, when even we didn’t realize that these will stay with us for life. A group that doesn’t only affect the lives of an employee base of more than 120,000, the 46,500 students they teach in their schools, the 70 million polio immunized children, the 5,000 villages they work in, but also a billion other Indians. Impacting so many lives, being with them in the moments they cherish and still remaining anonymous in terms of their involvement is the beauty they possess inside.
