PART A
Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is close to the hearts of millions of people. Spanning 34 countries, Aditya Birla Group is anchored by a strong force of over 120,000 employees, belonging to 42 nationalities. A US $48.3 billion corporation, the Aditya Birla Group is in the League of Fortune 500. Named the ‘ Best Employer ’ in India -2018 by Aon Hewitt. A humongous conglomerate that caters to the needs of every person or entity out there, be it in the manufacture of Infrastructural Capital goods, Fashion, Telecommunications or Financial services. ABG has etched a name for itself in the Hall of fame of Indian corporates. ABG is also known for its advertisements which are very societal. Also, its products are known for their reliability and quality.
From my personal experience I would stand for is Aditya Birla’s range of clothing brands. Allen Solly, Louis Philippe, Peter England, and Van Heusen are quite the stand-alone products in their own right and offer the wearer a sense of sophistication and comfort previously unheard of. Right from the fabric to the sewing style they use, the brands are impeccable in every way imaginable and don’t crease under pressure. ABG’s insignia, a rising sun, seems to bode well with its infrastructural businesses, the brands Ultratech and Hindalco have the hallmark of being used in a number of famous construction projects, both in India and around the world. In the segment of telecommunication, the merger of Vodafone and ABG’s very own Idea cellular into a 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) Network has propelled ABG to the pedestal of being the largest telecom operator in India.
Another important point to touch upon would be ABG’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. ABG’s hospital services, immunisation camps and mid-day meals for school children have positively impacted the lives of millions of people in India who otherwise do not have access to such services.
PART B
My personality traits of simplicity with the right mix of intelligence and interpersonal skills could, very well, be my one-way ticket into ABG’s Leadership Programme. The leadership programme looks for exceptional individuals who can be groomed to take over the mantle of ABG’s business ventures. I think my sheer tenacity, perseverance and emotional indifference closely matches the character profiles that the programme seeks to find.
In my failures and success, ABG, specifically Peter England, has been with me. The toughest part of my life was the time when I was struggling in my career growth and decided to opt for an MBA. This was a tough time as I was low on confidence and had limited idea about my future. The process was long and required a lot of patience and constant self-motivation. I remember the times before each of my B -school interview, when my heart used to pound hard, thinking about the million ways in which my interview could go wrong. But every time, I ensured I suited up and gave my best in the opportunities I got. Some I cleared, some I didn’t but I came victorious in a place from where I had a vision for the future.
ABG has been an inseparable part of my life. The brands which ABG offers have become so internalised in our day to day life. Peter England, Allen Solly, Forever 21, People, Van Heusen and countless more brands have made an impact in the Indian market. Similar to ABG, I made impact when I first joined my job fresh from college. I was allocated to a pilot project, which required me to convince a client about a solving a complex business problem. As for ABG, it took time and numerous efforts to convince the client and make him trust my team so much that the model changed from client to a partner. In more than ways I realise, ABG has and always will be an inspiration.
