Part A: Why Aditya Birla is big in my life?
Aditya Birla Group is a name that is conspicuous by its scale and enormity. For me and my family this name signifies a strong emotional bond – the first member of my family to step in the corporate world joined Aditya Birla way back in 1980s. Since then, this brand and its products have formed an integral part of our life story.
When opportunities knocked at my door in the form of interview calls from the best B Schools across India, I knew I had a constant companion – a dapper black suit from Van Heusen! That was my first buy when I started my graduation and it has proved to be a source of success all along. I have shared my journey with the suit below.
As can be seen in the timeline above, the Van Heusen suit has proved its mettle and loyalty on every important occasion of my life. I hail it as a companion that helps me build my aura and exude confidence in times of difficulty. Be it moments of glory or moments of hard times, I have always found comfort and ease in products that belong to the Van Heusen family!
The versatility of the suit and other such products that I ended up buying post a fantastic first experience, has always been a pull factor for me. I have developed a loyalty towards the brand and hope the same suit helps me to woo you through our story!
Part B: How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambition.
The bulls and bears (market conditions and the group performance) define the story of brand ABG over the years. Similarly, the ups and downs define brand Shashank Singh. A particular life incident that has shaped my life immensely is my transition from the science field to the commerce field.
In September 2014, right in the middle of my first semester I decided to move out of engineering. It was a decision based on sheer clarity and realisation that my passion and interests lied elsewhere. My decision was followed by a host of convincing and passionate appeals with my family that was not in favour of this decision. With a lot of efforts and patience, I could address the following concerns of my parents with the help of certain appeals as illustrated below:
This was a difficult challenge for me since it was for the first time, I was making a conscious decision with presumably very less support from my family, that would define my profession for the next 35 years. On one side, I was battling my own anxiousness regarding the decision and the path forward while on the other side I was continuously assuaging the fears of my family. For the first time in a family full of professors and research scholars, someone had decided to drop out for a year and it was not an easy ball game.
With grit, determination and appropriate planning I was able to make this transition finally and turned out to be a University Topper right in my first year!
