PLAY YOUR GAME NOT SOMEONE ELSE’S
PART B: HOW YOU OVERCAMECHALLENGES TO ACHIEVE YOUR AMBITIONS IN LIFE? Challenges are like friction. As studied in Science class of 8th Standard, it is a necessary evil. However, it is upon the force inside the human to apply and overcome it or continue being in the state of rest as per the Newton’s first law of motion. A unique thing about challenge is that they are relative and thus, my article may have different perception for everyone. We have a saying in Hindi: “A bad fish spoils the pond” and it is something which I relate with. I always try to compete with my peer circle no matter the field i.e. study, sports, music, theatre, etc. Thus, the challenges for me were varying a lot. During my school time, I was surrounded by nerds and thus, the only challenge for me was to top the class. So, when I shifted to Gujarat in 2005, I had to learn a new language to get good grades in the subject. However, my (late) professor helped me with extra classes and giving an advice to watch Gujarati plays was very helpful to get a hold on the language. When I came to college my peers were into cricket and I had never watched or played the game. However, to have a common interest I started watching and playing it. I never got good at the game but I was content with the level at which I was playing. My peers help me practice my fielding and batting in the nets by bowling in my weak areas. However, when I came to IIM Kashipur, I had a peer of mixed interests. This was a unique challenge as I would try to get competitive with all and miserably fail at it. Thus, I realized to take up only those challenges where my competency was there and then with perseverance and help from my experienced colleagues I overcame different challenges. Thus, challenges must be taken head on only if you have a competency in it and then you need to have faith in yourself to overcome them with time.
