A. Why is Aditya Birla Group big in your life?
I still remember those days when I was not too fond of the advertisements broadcasted in between television shows. However, I remember very clearly the 10-year-old advertisements of idea cellular starring Abhishek Bachchan and stating, “An idea can change your life’. Those advertisements were fascinating and created a ripple in my mind to know about the brand. Gradually I came across its journey. It was founded by Shiv Narin Birla in 1857 when he started cotton trading in Pilani, Rajasthan. The flagship Company of Aditya Birla Group (ABG) Grasim Industries was set up just ten days after India got independence in 1947. ABG group has travelled a long road ahead then and has become a well-known Indian conglomerate.
ABG has subsidiaries which have directly or indirectly impacted the lives of common people. Through their innovative products and services, they are reaching out to millions globally and trying to add value and purpose. It has employees of 42 different nationalities working in 34 countries. Ranging from fabric, insulators, carbon nanoparticles for tyres to cement, AB Group is active in 14 Industry sectors and has emerged as a global brand.
In my life, ABG has an impact which I came to know later. I belong to the state of Odisha, which is most commonly gets hit by cyclones, floods, and natural calamities. These calamities play havoc with the infrastructure. The Ultratech cement brand of ABG has played a significant role in improving the infrastructure of my state after calamities. With brands like Grasim, Allen Solly, Peter England, etc. ABG has been involved in showcasing my fashion statement.
Therefore, it can be said that ABG has deep roots inside customers like us, and more we notice the more we realize the importance of its products.
B. How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
Someone rightly said that life’s problem wouldn’t be called hurdles if there wasn’t a way to get over them. So challenges are meant to prepare us for extracting the better version of ourselves. Life without challenges is pointless.
I have spent most of the time with my mother since my father is working in central forces. In a year hardly he stays 50 days at home. My mother and then I have to take all the responsibilities which were a significant challenge. I grew up looking at the courage and determination of my mother to raise me. From a very young age, I took the responsibilities like- going to market to buy household and food items, payment of bills, etc. Taking responsibilities at a young age was a big challenge for me. However, I looked at it as an opportunity to improve my abilities to handle responsibilities. My childhood experience was beneficial to me when I stepped outside the house for my engineering study. During that period staying away from home was a big challenge for me because there were several daily kinds of stuff which were done for me by my mother. At that time, I realized it. However, my childhood learning of taking a challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow changed my perception. Daily chores like cleaning room, cooking, washing clothes & utensil which were never in my zone, but I slowly learned all kinds of stuff. I hope those basic kinds of stuff are not rocket science to learn but help a child to become a man.
Life will always throw a challenge on us, but the way we perceive it changes the whole equation. Be calm and be positive are the two lessons which are still with me to overcome any hurdle in my way.
