Aditya Birla Group. The name catches the attention of the people around, wherever you may be. It is a name not unknown to many.
The 162-year old conglomerate has a presence in many industries, including non-ferrous metals, cement, carbon black, textile, telecom, financial services, et cetera. With its presence in so many sectors, Aditya Birla Group is a massive part of my life.
I was aged 12 when my father took a step towards achieving the dream of his own house by getting the construction work started. I distinctly remember the sacks of cement to be used in the construction and what I recall is the brand written on the dusted bags – ULTRATECH.
Birla Carbon is the leading producer of black carbon additives in the world. The carbon black keeps the tires of my bike and car safe by improving its wear characteristics and heat-dissipation capabilities.
One of the mobile sim’s I use is Vodafone, in which Idea merged in the year 2018, making it the largest telecom company in terms of revenue and subscribers.
Aditya Birla Group also finds a place in my wardrobe in the form of clothing and fashion brands like Peter England, Allen Solly, and Pantaloons.
Brand trust is an essential intangible asset in business. It reflects a customer’s expectation with a brand’s product or services, depending on the offering. To achieve this trust, brands must be reliable, responsible, and should deliver on their promises. The Aditya Birla Group scores well on all these evaluating parameters and deserves to be among the top conglomerates in India.
How you overcame challenges in life?
Challenges in life are inevitable. Some of us may face them early on in our lives while for some, it may take years to overcome, and others are just about taking the next step. Regardless of the what, where, when, why, and how of your challenge, at the end of it all, it is still something you overcame.
For me, one of the biggest challenges that I faced in my life was my academic year when I was in Class 11th.
The glorifying result of Class 10th, peer pressure, and lack of information propelled my mind to develop an interest in the most sought career option in India, i.e., Engineering. I got admitted to one of the most reputed coaching centers for my JEE preparation. The first two weeks went well, but gradually, things began to slip out of my hands.
I started to lag in my batch, and no matter how hard I focused on studies, I wasn’t able to cope up. With the opening of schools, the pressure increased, which added fuel to the fire. Hardly two months had gone by when I realized I was not tailor-made for this field of engineering.
I was in a fix, with the pressure of not being able to cope up and the thought of the refundable 1.5 lac rupees. Believe it or not, things went on for like this for nearly a year.
My father, who had seen me tensed for a couple of months, repeatedly asked me for reasons why I was sad. One day I succumbed to him, and I told him about my inability to cope up with the expectations. Calm and loving as he is, he made me leave the coaching the very next day.
It was then that he told me that it was not that I was not capable of anything, but I had maybe other interests He assured me of supporting me in any career path that I chose, according to my inclination and not pushing me towards a specific profession.
For the next year, I concentrated on my board exams and secured a decent 96%, which resulted in my admission to the prestigious University of Delhi. I used my father’s mantra and further cracked CAT, and today, I sit in one of the premier management institutes of the country.
It's not about how the challenge caused a problem; it is always about how you overcome them.
In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me, there lay an invincible summer.
