Part A - It is said that people continue to live on in memories. Whoever, wherever, has touched your life and has had a profound impact on it continues to live in your thoughts. Nostalgic thoughts or memories are triggered when you come across valuable belongings of the person, or encounter situations experienced together in the past – reminiscence of the memories attached to materialistic possessions and places where people have shared experiences. Hence, it becomes extremely important to preserve these belongings in order to protect memories from being lost.
My grandfather was one such person in my life, whom I used to admire since I was a child. He was a wise, charismatic person, who was well – respected by relatives and colleagues, having graduated as a mining engineer from Indian School of Mines in the 60s. He left an indelible mark on me with his views and teachings about life, career and family. Towards the end though, his health and state had really deteriorated much like the grand house that he had built in his hometown. The house, which used to be our fun – filled haven during the summer vacations stood in a dilapidated state, long past its glory years with no one to take care of it as my grandfather had been staying with us. It was his pride and his legacy. We had to preserve his legacy and protect his, our cherished memories, and for that we trusted
Ultratech Cement –
just like Ultratech Cement is preserving its 34-year-old legacy and has been restoring India to its glorious past since 1985, it restored my grandfather’s house, now sturdy as ever, to its full glory of yesteryears.
Part B - My grandfather always used to remark that a person’s will is the true test of their character. During third year in college, while the sixth semester final examinations were ongoing, I was diagnosed with severe jaundice. It was the second day of the week long semester exams, when I started feeling uneasy and my body was unable to hold back any food. From the third day onwards, my body started rejecting even water moments after drinking it. So, I was now faced with a decision. Either I could go home and drop credits plummeting my graduation CGPA just months before the placements started, or I could choose to continue. This situation was a test of my character, and I decided to finish my examinations. So, for the next two days, I was drinking fluids, throwing up, popping pills – to study and remain strong enough to get through two exams in a day. However, this experience made me realize that one can get through any situation in life, howsoever difficult, with their will – power, or like John Wick’s sheer f***ing will. Although I have been a sincere student all my life cracking all major engineering and management entrance tests, this learning altered my approach in life. Thereon, I have had a bright and successful career in data analytics building relationships with stakeholders of Fortune 500 companies, cracked CAT multiple times with 99+ percentile before joining SJMSoM by overcoming challenges every day like articulation, clarity of thought, fluency in speech, etc. – motoring through with my will.
