Coming from a family of officers in government sector since multiple generations, it was a shock to my family when I informed them that I want to pursue a career in corporate management. There is a low quotient of trust in the private sector. It is infamous for its cut throat competition, skewed life work life balance and low job. Thankfully my father was wearing a Louise Philippe shirt when we were having this conversation. I pointed out that there are some brands like Aditya Birla Group that we have trusted since generations. Trust goes beyond products’ quality and value for money. Aditya Birla Group has been a part of a middle-class family’s daily life. The feeling of reliability and indigeneity makes us feel like it is our own brand. It is because of this I was able to convince my parents to some degree that I would be able to survive the corporate world. Being a part of IIM Rohtak was a big change for me, in this transition also, Aditya Birla Group was right by my side. From being a Pantaloon and Forever 21 loyalist, to becoming the fan of Van Heusen Women and Allen Solly Women for their power dressing segment, the transition was really smooth. Pantaloons and Forever 21 is still a part of my casual yet elegant dressing requirement of regular days. The reason behind such brand loyalty includes quality but also extends to the confidence and comfort these brands offer. I write this article while talking to my father about the project of my house’s renovation and how UltraTech cement is the obvious choice for the construction.
The reason I pursued MBA after my graduation in Information Technology Engineering was because I aim to create, run and grow a company that will generate skilled and Industry competent software engineers. It is a sad fact that a large percentage of engineering graduates are unfit for software engineering jobs. The problem will become more severe with people becoming obsolete because of the rise of Artificial Intelligence. It is vital for our country to keep up with dynamic skill requirements of the IT industry. India has human resource in excess. When equipped with proper skills, it will fuel our nation’s growth and economy. In my 3
rd year of engineering, I became well aware of this issue as I was the part of the Placement Cell of my college. I started a personal project, to bridge the gap between Engineering academics and actual Industry requirement. The aim of this venture was to train and encourage people to improve and work on their practical skill set. I created a network of local IT companies who would allow my batchmates to assist them in some IT projects. The companies got fresh talent to work for them and the students got industry and technical exposure. I also started knowledge and interaction sessions with the help of my friends to work on the soft skills of the budding engineers. The support groups helped people improve their English proficiency, body language etc. This helped our Batch to reach 100% placements and the model was applied to my junior batch and the average CTC also increased significantly along with 100% placements. Being able to work with around 80 people and helping them achieve their dream job is my biggest achievement so far. I plan on scaling this project to multiple tier 2 and tier 3 engineering colleges to improve the total employability of the engineers of those colleges.
