Under the directions of Seth Shiv Narayan Birla and with a vision to be a premium global conglomerate with a clear focus on each business and with a mission to deliver superior values to customers, shareholders, employees, and societal large, the Aditya Birla group has emerged as one of the biggest Indian giants. The conglomerate offers a wide range of products and services to the end customer under one roof and some of these like Allen Solly, Peter England, Pantaloons, Grasim are a part of my daily lifestyle.
Having completed my graduation, I landed up in a job at Tata Consultancy Services. After all, it was "The Engineer's Choice". I moved to Chennai with my enthusiasm at the peak to explore new places, people and cultures, but nature had other plans. Within a few days, Floods wreaked havoc in Chennai and I found myself helpless just sitting around and doing nothing to help the people. But it is rightly said that an idea can change your life. I realized that it was my time to pay back to society and utilize the leadership skills that I have acquired by listening to leaders from the Birla group. The fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me and I decided to take it up as a challenge. Within no time, I convinced my friends to help the people in need. We just had a single thought at that point of time, “We are not doing it to earn money, We are not doing it to earn respect, we are only doing it for our fellow humans. My team worked tirelessly for three days, helping the people despite the water gushing everywhere. We weren’t sure we would be safe. But who thinks of their safety at a time like that? We braved the floods and just thought about rescuing people. The team ensured that the food packets were delivered to the people in due course of time.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was the number of snakes in the waters. “The snakes could be seen almost everywhere, but we got so used to their sight we would tell each other you ignore the snakes and they will ignore you in turn". Then the things got worse and we were asked to move to other places. With lots of thoughts running through my mind, I boarded the train to Hyderabad and eventually took a flight to Delhi. I wish I had the strength Of Ultratech Cement at that time. Though things got better over a while, it had left Chennai in a state of Paralysis. I worked for Tata Consultancy Services for another 2 years and then prepared hard and finally converted a good Business school where tons of challenges and opportunities awaits me. But as the world is "for the Self-made", I would take these up with open arms. I believe that I would acquire an altogether different skill set during the two year MBA program. Finally, I aspire to open my event management venture in the long run and hope to make it big soon.
