In the average Indian household or even among the urban illiterates the name Aditya Birla Group, often known as the Birla Group rings a bell. They associate the name with a far-flung business empire with presence in almost industry. They are not very wrong, since this is wisdom passed down to them for several generations now. US $44.3 billion corporationtoday the Aditya Birla Group is active in 14 industry sectors and has achieved global and national leadership in several businesses. The day starts for me with the ‘Selecta Green Tea’ improving my brain function and giving a great start to my day. Such good quality food products are being made available by the ABG through convenient end of the street grocery store style ‘More’ supermarket which is within a walking distance of my home. The staple food of Rotis is again from the wheat flour purchased from the same store.  Being the only child in the family and having to stay away from home is certainly makes me miss them. But, to an extent this reduces thanks to the Idea 4G cellular services which are again a part of the ABG. They help me for the virtual family get-togethers which were even unimaginable even a few decades back. Another big change in my life is the joining of a B-School. The one thing that has accompanied me all loyally through the journey right from the interview to the current guest lectures and internships is my ‘Louis Phillippe’ Suit. All the other fashion needs are taken care by the bevy of other brands the group offers. Through all of these, they are also making us a part of their significant efforts towards their CSR initiatives. My father who is in his fifties is creating a corpus for his post-retirement life thanks to the appreciating mutual funds from the Birla fund house.  At the end of the day I sleep in my house where again ABG has been a part of it through their ‘UltraTech’ cement. This is how ABG touches every part of my life and has been touching lives of people Since the last 162 years and will continue to do so. #IIMTrichy #ABGLPWooMe #ABGLP #IIM #Trichy #Toucheslife

THE CHALLENGE CALLED LIFE-NEVER SETTLE

The word ‘Life’at first may seem to look like a simple four lettered word. But it is a puzzle, a passion and a fight every day. It throws challenges at you at every turn. Everybody has a different set of challenges. I have had my share of them till now and will continue to have them in future for sure. One of the biggest challenges I have faced in my relatively short life is whether to settle for the mediocre or try to have the best. I have been working with a public sector institution where I was getting paid in a satisfactory way. But the thought of doing an MBA was a nagging feeling at the back of my head, since I wanted to have a structured learning of how businesses operate and wanted to move forward in my career. Then, I faced the biggest challenge in my life where I had to decide between the Semi-Government job I had which offered decent work-life balance, pay and relatively quick promotional chances versus the passion and ambition which was present deep inside me. Though I had gotten many advises where people suggested against leaving the job, I realised I was the only person who knew all the aspects and outcomes of the alternates in the challenge. I put every possible scenario that could happen on a chart and by weighing the pros and cons of each decision, decided that I am going to do an MBA. I started working hard and finally landed in a prestigious institution. Ambition takes the front seat in any decision. In my case I may have lost a job that I might not get back but my ambition will certainly will open up many new doorways for me in the days to come.
