‘May’ is a month I hate. It brings forth a day in life that I am never prepared to face. ‘Results ’! That day of your life, when your fate is in the hands of  ‘Sharmaji ke Bete.’ I can bet on it that there was a part of our school and college life that we all hated; it was known as ‘Study.’ Academics as the grammar Nazis around here might coin it. But was there ever an escape plan possible? Does a life without academics exist? Academics is a lethal combination of all the subjects that you thoroughly hate but form an essential part of your social and mental development at various stages of life may it be school or college.  And that brings us to the answer to our question. Yes, academics form the basis of our core development irrespective of what grades we achieve. Academics answer simple questions like ‘How things work,’ ‘How it used to work,’ and opens doors for us to think ‘How things will work.’ People often tend to assume academics to be ‘historic’; instead, it is ‘futuristic.’ It is a value addition process that, at every stage, gives you a new perspective, a new thought process using already existing data and examples. The purpose of studying Newton’s laws of motion wasn’t to bring us face to face with how he used to think. But the fact that if next time an apple falls on your head, probably you’ll start to ponder why the apple fell and what can be done to improve the quality of the apple to prevent it from falling. Or you may even invent a helmet that protects us from falling apples! Jokes apart, academics is the primary data that any selection/judging panel uses to make initial assumptions of you as a person. It is not the only measure, but it is a robust measure. May it be your percentile in CAT or the application ratings B-school selectors generate using your combined scores when you apply, academics form the major part of your selection. A good score tells a lot about the personality one is. Hardworking, smart, knowledgeable, etc. are some traits that we usually assume, and hence it increases the probability of you getting a shortlist unless its job of a bank heist. Do you know the best part of academics? It’s that we can always start fresh. It’s never too late to transition from being a mediocre student to a table topper. With less than a month to go for CAT and with your 10th and 12th scores already sealed for a lifetime, it’ll be a great idea to walk the extra mile. And if you’ve already scored high in these, well, you anyways have lots of expectation to fulfill in CAT. It is a thought process that academics aims at making you learn. A word that we’ve often misinterpreted and tried to run away from is the first step to start your journey towards making it big! Be rest assured, with 99% on our score sheet; you’ll definitely never be the dumbest guy in the room (I was in my GD, but they assumed I wasn’t. Brownie points of good acads you know) If you still feel that all this just another boring chapter, remember that we’ve suffered from this epidemic and surely want generations ahead also to suffer from the same. After all, why should we suffer alone? So keep setting new standards, keep inventing, and achieving so that one day, you too can become a chapter of somebody’s Academic curriculum.
