My journey at IIM Indore so far is no less of an action-packed ride full of all kind emotions, stress, adventure and what not. The campus itself is quite lively and in my long stay of 4 years over here, every nook and corner has garnered its own cherished memories, but here I am going to talk about a memorable and unexpected event in my b-school life, unexpected in the sense that it happened in a ‘typical’ class and memorable as it proved to be quite a learning experience.
It was a regular Organisational Behaviour class going on in the second term of 1st year MBA, a case study going on, a particularly unappealing one I must admit, and to gauge student’s interest, the professor initiated a role play and allotted the ‘C-level’ roles to several students to enact the discussion in the case, which was about ethical issue and maintenance of public image, and thereby come up with some solution. In the middle of that role play came a group of 7-8 people, literally bashing the classroom door and started a protest against the students enacting the roles, honestly I was taken aback, as in what just happened, and I would admit first time my interest level or what you may name it increased exponentially. These new ‘violent protestors’ were also a pre-planned part of the entire script and they were protesting against the defective offerings from the company which led to severe ailment to a customer segment.
The role play in an uninteresting OB class actually became quite a learning experience as it provided how things actually happen in the world out there, the consequences of your action can far exceed your planning, and it also depicted how to get out of such a situation, and it surely is my most memorable class till date.
