I am 2013A1PS655G, for some of those who know what that means, I want to say I am proud, I am proud of every minute of being a BITSian.

On 28th July 2013 a shy and timid version of me joined Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Goa with aspirations to achieve great heights. BITS Pilani has given me everything that I needed but I didn’t know until I started my work life. BITS Pilani has a very different culture from other engineering colleges, its openness, freedom of choice and strong culture, inherited from the Aditya Birla Group, has not only given me a different perspective about life but also shaped me into a new outgoing and confident person which I never was. I now define myself as a BITSian and this is what Aditya Birla Group has given me.

Another beautiful stint with the Aditya Birla Group was my internship at Grasim Industries, Nagda. I strongly believe that the greatest learning of life are made during the toughest times. It was during the summer, at 45 deg, with no coolers or air conditioners, with heavy helmet and heavy shoes, we were to have a plant visit daily and understand every function for almost a month, though it sounds tiring and it was but I saw people working under the same conditions with much more passion and dedication. I learnt that no amount of pain or physical pressure can change ones determination, if you really want to achieve something. And Aditya Birla Group is a living example of that, they are a bunch of folks who not only want to deliver the best to their customers but also takes care of the society at large with their initiatives like Making a Difference and Novelis, and making the world a better place to live by giving equal chance and recognition to everyone in the world. If given a chance, I surely want to be a part of its ecosystem once again and try to make an impact.

I also would like to share another brief story about me and how I managed a situation which we never anticipated.

After working for two years in the Department of Backstage and Infrastructure, I was elected as a coordinator for Technical Festival (Quark). All the teams have worked really hard throughout the year to make the 3 days successful and students from different colleges were also invited to participate in different competitions and everything needed to go as planned for the BITS Pilani to shine as always. It was the first day, all the sponsor booths, food court and competition arenas were set, the first completion was about to begin but then there was an electricity cut. Within half an hour there was a chaos, sponsors were shouting and food court was empty. It took me a while to find out what went wrong, the power tripped because of the high voltage use from one of the power points. Then I figured out that all the high power consuming equipment were drawing electricity from the same point. I quickly contacted the Department of Sponsorship Management and talked to the individual food stalls and arranged them in a manner that not more than three heavy electrical were in the same row and drawing power from the same point. We were never prepared for a situation like this and I guess we never will be, we just have to be calm and always be on our toes to face any challenge that comes our way.
