With a vision to be a premium global conglomerate with a clear focus on all type of businesses and its continuous initiatives to reach this ultimate goal, the Aditya Birla Group has incorporated into the very core of our lives. When I say this that ABG products are a massive part of my life, I think I say this on behalf of the millions of people living in India. The Mumbai-based, US $ 44.3 billion corporations have successfully seated itself in the league of Fortune 500. The group is anchored by a strong force of over 120000 employees, belonging to 42 nationalities and spanning 34 countries. But what makes ABG unique from its competitors is its focus and commitment towards its values, as inspired by its founder Aditya Vikram Birla. Courtesy to these values, the company has not won the hearts and trust of the people solely by its products but also by the social and welfare initiatives that it undertook both internal and external to the organization. Covering a variety of businesses and acing in every field they entered, ABG has enriched people's lives by their dedication towards stakeholder value creation be it internal or external stakeholders. If I talk about the diversity of businesses they deal in, sure, there are countless of them – ranging from the world's 2nd largest telecom player to the most significant fashion retail in India. But behind all these businesses, it's the values and exemplary CSR activities they indulge in to make a world a better place.
When you read about the good that the industries and the big companies do to the society as their duty towards the welfare of their country and its people; you are motivated to step into the same direction – to do something big in your life something that not only changes your life but the lives of millions of others along with you. Incidents like this are precisely something that happened to me. This is precisely how the initiatives taken by the Aditya Birla Group inspired me to venture into a completely different course of life than what I previously thought to pursue. It was during my Project report preparation when I researched on the CSR initiatives by the Aditya Birla Group, one of the campaigns that grabbed my instant attention was by their retail sector – the Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, which includes brands like Pantaloons, Allen Solly, Louis Phillipe and many of the likes of the affluent shoppers. Although ABG is prominently active in the CSR space focusing mainly on the issues and education and empowerment of girl-child, by the initiatives like Pratham and Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement; and contributing to the hygiene issues in the villages by building up to 350 toilets under the Nirmal Ghar Swacchata Abhiyan scheme. This was a wake-up call for me because here I was oblivious to the trivial issues of life, unaware of the good the company does to the needy when we are buying its products, the responsibilities it willingly undertakes when no one enforced upon them. That's when I decided to contribute to my share of good work to the society and the environment. That is when I decided to teach the kids of my maids and driver, with providing them all the basic stationery. I later tutored some of the kids living in the local areas belonging to the underprivileged. Apart from this, I started a green locality campaign at my college, where a group of students from my college gathered and we went along the colonies and neighborhoods to promote and encourage the residents towards a cleaner and greener locality.
Apart from all this, it's the initiatives that ABG takes towards both employee and customer empowerment while keeping its strategy intact with its fundamental values which are the foundation of the Aditya Birla Group and the reason as to why ABG is BIG in not only mine but in everybody's life.
