As a sole child of my parents, I was one of the most reserved and introverted people you will ever come across, a borderline Sheldon Cooper if you will. However, it so happened that due to good grades in 12th standard, I was required to move out of the house to a bigger city to pursue my dream to become an engineer from one of the most reputed institutes “College of Engineering Pune”. It was beyond my wildest imagination to share my living space with anyone apart from my parents. However, as it is rightly said, ‘
Difficult times often bring out the best in people’. Spending four years at the college hostel and sharing my life, failing and learning with every occasion with the so-called bunch of strangers now the best of friends has made me what I am today. A major lesson of Change being the only constant was learnt and not to say that I am accomplished yet but certainly not reserved and definitely a better version of my former self.
After graduating, I joined Oracle where I was the only one from non-computer science (production engineering) background. Initially it was quite a challenge to fit into all the tech geeks. Getting trained by domain experts and working rigorously, gradually I learnt and acquired the skill set that my job demanded and delivered full-fledged modules under various projects. This deliverable attracted an even larger and more sophisticated project from the client. I was personally lauded by our manager for my successful deliverable in Australia Post, especially given my background. By the end of my stint with Oracle, I was involved in on-boarding, training and knowledge transfer sessions for new recruits within our domain.
This made me realize how a strong willpower is the most crucial aspect to achieve our goals.
‘Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life’
Founded at a time when India was under the British Raj (1857) and was undergoing a major rebellion against the British East India Company, our home-grown brand Aditya Birla Group has come a long way and has played a major part in Nation Building.
From political instability in India during the pre-Independence era to changing norms and regulations like liberalisation in 1991 and recession across the world in 2008, the group has withstood the test of time. Not only has it provided employment to millions of Indians, but also made some remarkable acquisitions thus being the Indian front-runner in the Business World.
As an aspiring engineer back then it was always my dream to get into the renowned BITS Pilani. The manner in which Aditya Birla group has changed with the changing times and taken tough but necessary decisions while staying modest and close to its roots resonates with my philosophy in my own life. Mr. Aditya Vikram Birla, India’s 'First Global Industrialist' is definitely an inspiration to all of us studying in B-schools and aiming to make a difference in the world.
The vibrant logo of ABG is highly coherent with the products of the company which have shown
- INTEGRITY of the Ultra tech cement in building the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (the lifeline for most Mumbaikars),
- PERFECTION of the Hindalco freshwrapp which keeps my food clean and fresh,
- flawless PERFORMANCE of the Idea network which has shortened the distances between Indians,
- QUALITY of Allen Solly formals which helped me get through all my interviews
- and above all the CHARACTER that ABG has exhibited through its various initiatives like Women empowerment and Aditya Birla scholarships for achievers.
I shall be forever indebted to the ABG group for making India proud.
