Often companies talk about giving back to the society, public inclusiveness, etc. but most of the companies end up doing one day of CSR activities in the name of giving back to society. However, there are some companies which actually believes in giving back to society and form the inclusiveness basis of their business. One forerunner in this segment is Aditya Birla Group. ABG was one of the first industrialists of Independent India. Despite having the early advantage they didn't just work for their own profits but worked towards making a better and prosperous society. This is reflected clearly in their business domains. They touch each and every life catering to every age group starting right from Birla School & BITS Pilani, pioneers in the field of education. Birla hospitals, known for their quality treatment. Birla Mandirs in every major city. Ultratech Cements one of the leading Cement brands of India which is truly an engineer's choice. Hindalco one of the largest steel producer of the company. Vodafone Idea telecom which is known for its network coverage and speed, one of the best in the sector. Fashion retail stores from economical Pantaloons to luxurious Van Heusen. Apart from this ABG maintains the second largest retail chain MORE. Such is the diversification and reach of the group is, that hardly any day passes without using one or more service of ABG. Apart from this ABG provides direct employment to over 1.5 lakh people. Being at the top for such a long time surely requires perseverance and commitment towards the goal of a better society.
Being persistent is something which I personally believe is the greatest trait anyone can have. As it is often truly said talent can show you the line but hard work is the way to cross it. Throughout my life I was never exceptional at anything, I was jack of all trades but master of none. But I made a conscious effort to be persistent in whatever I pursued, to put my extra effort for the things which was outside my comfort zone. I credit a lot of my success to perseverance and hard work and to this day I believe this is my best personality trait. After graduation, I worked for L&T construction. After working there for sometime I realized that although I was technically equipped to do the job, I was lacking at many other facets like optimization of workflow, interpersonal skills, etc. I could have learned all that with experience but I decided to pursue an MBA to have a holistic view of every business process I was involved within all industries not just in construction. In L&T we had long work timings leaving very little time for other things. So when I started with my preparation it was difficult to manage both preparation and work. However once again persistence came to my fore and I managed to score a decent percentile and secure admission in SJMSOM, IIT Bombay. SJMSOM will surely provide me opportunities to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Aditya Birla Group is an inspiration for me because it is a live example of what perseverance can result into which will keep me motivated for sure.
