The first product that comes to my mind when someone says Aditya Birla group is cement. This is because the group has the most extensive presence in India. Aditya Birla Group has become synonymous with cement. However, the giant is not restricted to cement only. It has its presence in fashion, textile, telecom, financial services, and across other 14 sectors.
The most important sector that I associate Aditya Birla Group the most is fashion. The group has redefined the fashion industry from brands like
Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England, and People. Apart from these the group also owns Pantaloons the one store every Indian living in towns and cities is aware of. The group has its presence catering to all type of consumers from price-sensitive through Pantaloons to fashion conscious and willing to splurge through brands like Van Heusen, Allen Solly. Apart from this the group also acquired the exclusive online and retail rights of US brand Forever 21 in India. The group understands its consumers well “What an urban millennial wants to wear.” Brands like
Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen have become status symbol similar like having an Apple Phone. People take pride in being associated with the group.
Apart from fashion, the group also holds an important position in cement business. Ultra tech being India’s largest cement company. In textile as well the group is the largest producer of Viscose staple fibre. In financial services which all come under Aditya Birla Capital (ABC), the group has a strong presence across the life insurance, asset management, lending, housing finance, equity & commodity broking, wealth management, and distribution.
The group has also initiated many CSR activities. The main focus of CSR is on building a sustainable way of living and helping the weaker sections of society flourish and prosper, and the group has continuously made significant in rural development. The group works in over 5000 villages providing education, medical facility, mid-day meal, solar lamps. The group has always seen CSR activity as a way of contributing to society and building a better India. This is evident from the fact the group has partnered with government organizations and NGO to ensure that efforts reach the needy.
Aditya Birla Group has refined being successful and making an impact despite hurdles and failure. The group has been an inspiration to many including me. I was part of the student chapter of Lions club, i.e. Leo club and was an active volunteer of the NGO. Every year the NGO held blood donation camp and in 2017 was the first time that the students were responsible for the entire event. The team was thrilled by such an opportunity. However, due to mismanagement and lack of leadership from the senior members' nothing was prepared till the last day. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, I stepped in and took charge of the event. I contacted two hospitals in two nearby cities and asked their team to come for the blood donation camp. I allocated a group of 20 students’ work of publicizing the event so that we can get maximum units. On the main event, everything went well apart from a few glitches, and 210 units of blood were collected, which was seven units more than last year.
