How I overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far.
When I started working for the first time in August 2014, with all the excitement, nervousness and expectations to learn something new every moment. It started smoothly, and all the realities were surpassing the expectations. It was all going well until August 2015.
I joined the organization as ‘Graduate Engineer Trainee’ and was assigned International Business Division in the design and costing department. As it was a newly formed department I was exposed to a lot of fields. My main responsibilities were logistics, costing and tender documentation. As I work closely with the design department, I learned some basic designing of cables and conductors.
August 2015, after completion of one year I got promoted to ‘Graduate Engineer’ and there was a shuffle in the design department which leads to splitting of the design department in two parts, Export and Domestic. I was reassigned to that Export design department under experienced design personnel. As he was new to the organization, he expected me to take full responsibility for designing cables for export and my problem was I did not have complete knowledge of it. I went to the head of the Export division and discussed my problem with him. He suggested me to take help from experienced design team members and asked me to go to the manufacturing unit to gain further knowledge. The problems which I face was, anyone either in manufacturing unit or in head office, where I was stationed, was not willing to help due to the time constraint. As I was doing my earlier work as well, I didn’t get much time during office hours to learn the cable design part.
It was clear to me that this way of learning is not going to work. So, I asked the head of the design department and various other people in online forums that which book should I refer to clear my doubts? They suggested me a handbook which helps me to resolve the issue. The main thing I learn is sometimes hard work is used to find the solution rather than implementing the solution.
When I resigned from the company and went to meet with director just to inform him about my decision, he referred to this incident and said that I have planned a lot of things for you, is there any way you can cancel your resignation. It meant a lot after all those struggles and I consider it as one of my greatest achievements to date.
