A story that has began from a small place called Pilani from the hot desert-land of India, Rajasthan. A success story that made the whole nation live the spirit of freedom fight movement and the story that made people of the newly freed nation wonder and inspire. No-one could have ever imagined the small business started by cotton merchant Seth Shiv Narayan Birla in 1857 in a British ruled in India just after the wake of the Indian Nationalism with the Indian Mutiny, the stage was set for the ‘Swadeshi’ entrepreneurship. But, this business went on breaking all the expectations to become India’s third biggest conglomerate contributing to nation building and impacting the nation’s citizens in various aspects of their lives via the different products offered under the umbrella : UltraTech Cement, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail, Aditya Birla Capital , Hindalco, Vodafone Idea Ltd. to name a few, each of which are one of the leading players in its respective markets. Today the brands reach has gone beyond the scope of our country, spanning 34 countries, anchored by a strong pool of employees over 1,20,000, which makes us proud as an Indian. Beside its business ventures ABG group has also focuses on the well-being of its diversified workforce as it is recognized as Aon Best Employer 2018 as well as focusing on its CSR activities ranging from women self help group to provide solar lamps to children, to training women to become entrepreneurs by setting up small garment industries to name a few. Apart from this, who can forget the chain of hospitals and schools are run all across the country by the group.
Which brings me to my story. The story of a kid who is from Kolkata, a city in which two major schools are run by the Birla trust. Though my first memory didn’t come from any of these two premier institutions, but it came in an unfortunate way. When I was a five year old kid, my father suffered a heart attacked and got admitted to B M Birla hospital in Kolkata. It was because of the care that was taken from the hospital at the critical moment that my father’s life got saved. I remained thankful to the hospital thereafter for this reason. As I was growing up as a kid, with growing interest in astronomy, I discovered that my city has the Asia’s biggest and world’s second biggest planetarium in the form of Birla Planetarium, which later became my regular visiting place with my grandfather and has left a significant mark in my life because of the cherish able childhood memories and nostalgia it has left me with. After growing up as an introvert kid from a vernacular medium school, my engineering college days made me transform into a personality quite the opposite. With the increase in my ability to mingle with people increased my fashion sense. ABG’s pantaloons outlets became my regular visits as a no-brainer for me ever since because of its wide variety, availability in all locations and flexibility. So, in many spheres of my life, I came across Aditya Birla Group and its services, I will be deeply happy and satisfied if I can contribute for this great organization in any form in future.
