I am one of those people, who has believed for the longest time that all goals of businesses basically boil down to making profits. Over time, however, I realized that some businesses operate with very noble objectives. A little digging about different companies’ contributions to the society led me to believe that Aditya Birla Group is one such company.
Talking about the past, Mahatma Gandhi believed that the wealth possessed by a businessman was not his own, but was held in trust for the rest of the society. The business built by Ghanshyam Das Birla remains the best portrayal of this belief. Ghanshyam Das helped our country immensely in financing our freedom movement. He truly acted as a mere trustee of the wealth created by his company. Fortunately, he passed on his skills and generosity to his successors. Aditya Birla Group continues to make a startling presence in almost every Indian’s life.
Aditya Birla Group has been a part of my life, from as long as I can remember. Our family has been regular visitors to Birla Temple at Kolkata. Its architecture has always been appealing to me. I have recollections of the temple since my childhood. Despite the temple being at the middle of extremely busy roads, it feels very peaceful to be inside the temple.
Other than that, as a child, my parents always purchased clothes for me from Aditya Birla Group’s multi brand fashion retail outlet, Pantaloons. What appealed me most was the quality of the clothes, and their economic pricing. As I have grown, I have never felt the need to change my clothing lines. The variety of clothes they offer, and the quality they maintain has made me stick to them for so long.
Going forward, I am confident that Aditya Birla Group will impact my life in many different ways. The group’s big philanthropic arm has contributed a lot in bringing the poverty-stricken people of our country out of it. I am confident that the company will continue this for generations to come. I hope, someday, in the near future I can be capable of impacting people’s lives the way that Aditya Birla Group has.
My Journey to #IIM Trichy
There have been times when I have thought myself to be victim to the challenges life threw at me. Those were the times I was the weakest, without any motivation to achieve my ambitions. Then, I started thinking of myself as a very strong individual who is well equipped to fight anything that comes my way. This simple belief brought about tremendous energy in me. Whenever I have really believed I could achieve something, I have worked really hard for it, and achieved it.
The latest recollection I have of this cycle is during my preparation to get into a B-School. In May 2018, I was giving my second-year exams of college. I was also appearing for two papers of CA- IPCC, Group II that month. I really enjoyed my subjects since 11
th standard, and I realized that after coming to college, I read my course with a very inquisitive mind, and I took interest in every new thing that was taught to us. So, I was confident of pursuing a masters. From June, I started preparing for CAT. I had to do this along with my third-year studies. I managed my time between going to college, studying for college, and preparing for CAT. I had become confident about my CAT preparation. I performed decently in CAT. Then, it was time to prepare for interviews, and my final year exams. During that time, I had to go through a lot emotionally, because my parents were hospitalized for a few days, and it was the first time that I had to deal with such a situation all by myself. I still prepared for the interviews dedicatedly. The result of that is I am studying at IIM Trichy right now. Parallelly, my final year exams also went really well, so I am really proud of myself for all the effort I gave, despite the challenges life threw at me.
