Why is Aditya Birla Group big in my life?
With presence in over 35 countries and ventures spanning over commodities like viscose staple fibre, metals, cement, viscose filament yarn, branded apparel, carbon black, chemicals, fertilisers, insulators, financial services, telecom, BPO and IT services, Aditya Birla Group, the top multinational conglomerate with more than 1,20,000 employees, has successfully taken India to the World.
At my age, with limited exposure to the world, the first thing that allures me when it comes to dressing up is Pantaloons. This fashion house over the years continues to be the one and only confident destination for buying clothes. Formal clothing for women would have been a different matter without brands like Allen Solly and Van Heusen.
My state Odisha has benefitted immensely though the activities of leading mining companies like Utkal Alumina International Limited, Hindalco, Aditya Aluminium and Essel Mining & Industries Limited, which are developing the bauxite and iron ore resources of the state through state-of-the-art exploration and mining.
Due to its exemplary work in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, the Group has set an example for other corporate houses to emulate. Through empowering the rural population, developing rural infrastructure, healthcare, education, livelihood and women empowerment, the group has set high standards of CSR that brings pride to a fan like me.
The Aditya Birla Group’s top concern for the environment is evident in its every activity. This year, keeping up with the United Nations theme of ‘Air Pollution’, ABG has pledged to create artwork out of toxic air. They have also planted over 1 million saplings to support the cause.
The group touches every Indian directly through its products and services. Right from soft drink cans to the telecom network, from big buildings to small utensils, from large infrastructure ventures to educational buildings, there is a bit of Aditya Birla in everybody’s life, including mine.
How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far
Right since the childhood, there were always the daunting family norms to be a perfectionist, to do the best in everything right from studies to music classes. School was an enjoyable place, where I was amidst the best attention of teachers. But the attention brought with it the biggest challenge of conducting myself in the best possible manner. From pressing the uniform to doing well in the exams, every task came with the greatest challenge, that is, to stand out in the crowd.
I always wanted to get into management. When I completed my BTech in Computer Science from the prestigious CET-Bhubaneswar, top companies selected me in campus for jobs. It was tempting to join one of them and start earning straightaway. But I somehow fought the idea successfully, working hard for CAT, and here I am in the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. It was quite challenging to forgo jobs in hand and study for another couple of years. Focussing on CAT preparation, placements and semester exams, all at the same time was quite difficult. Time management was a big challenge for me.
Along with that, my eleven years of constant efforts resulted in being honoured with the prestigious ‘Sangeet Visharad’ in Hawaiian Guitar, a classical musical instrument. Regular practice and participation in orchestras, with the rigour of academics, has definitely been a big challenge to accomplish, all for the sake of my interest in music.
As they say, life is full of challenges, but then what is life without challenges!
