“With great power comes great responsibility”, said Ben Parker from Spiderman and for a moment if we forget the fact that Spiderman was a fiction and re-read the above statement, it would sound so much real and would make so much sense, isn’t it? I mean, look around us in every field it is the duty of the powerful to act responsibly for the good things to happen else it could be as disastrous as it could get. Take the Chernobyl incident for example had Dyatlov, the powerful man in that context, had acted responsibly, none of it would’ve ever happened. Now the definition of having power depends on the context and in the context of a B2C world, a loyal and a wide customer base is a true measure of power. ABG is one among the few companies in the Indian market to have it and just like the saying goes they haven’t acted any less responsibly.
Having a large market share in cement industry, one which lot of innocent lives are dependent upon, is power and maintaining superior quality in every single unit and setting the bench mark for safety is being equally responsible. Making lots of money through business is power but establishing premier institutes like BITS with world class education and brightening up a generation is being responsible. Not just from the outside, I would like to add a personal touch to this as I know what ABG is like from the inside being worked there as an AX-POS developer for ABFRL. Every time if there is an issue in the system, a promotion not getting applied or a valid voucher not getting validated, every time the guys at the billing counters are instructed to give the benefit of doubt to customer, in this case applying the promotion and then taking care of the system later. Not only its customers ABG also values its people equally. It has a special employee discount to all their employees irrespective of the product and irrespective of the employee status not just this handing over presents on every special occasion and so many other. With all these mentioned examples it is clear that ABG have demonstrated their will to be responsible and that they are not just another company. Had Uncle Ben been here, he couldn’t be any happier.
My greatest challenge and how I overcame it
Going through the title one might easily assume that this is going to be a full ‘gyaan’ session but hey, hang on don’t judge me yet. Every one of us at some point or the other would’ve gone through a tough phase and I’m sure every one of us would’ve managed get of it irrespective of how well, each of us would’ve gotten of it. It’s obvious isn’t it that’s how evolution works. Well in my life it was stammering and getting caught up in forming sentences. Solutions can come from anywhere, trust me, anywhere so being already upon the fact that this won’t be a ‘gyaan’ I wouldn’t call it that but if you are stuck at similar thing in your life this might help you out a bit. In the corporate world no matter how great solutions you have communicating clearly is very important and big consequence of stammering is not being able create interest in the listener and this one small thing, trust me, manages to drain the enthusiasm out of you. Making people understand what you are up to is the most predominant thing because in a system each individual is dependent on other individuals, approvals, validations, sign-offs etc., etc., so in a system like this problem seemed to be a very big barrier. I have gone through so many websites, approached friends and did all that one would do. And the one solution which I narrowed it down to was reading books and communicating regularly. This looked promising and I was all encouraged to put it to practice. I’ve downloaded couple of interesting fictional novels and started reading them. After completing few chapters I’ve realized that all of the sentences or the words being used in the conversations didn’t appear to me as normal in the context of real world and that this is not going to work out. And just when I was all demotivated and ready to give up, my friend subscribed and this in my case was the greatest help I could’ve got. I mean there were so many series in there which had sequences involving two teenagers and they conversing in a normal way just like any two of us would do. With each episode that I’ve watched, carefully going through the subtitles, I’ve got better and better. Not just this sometimes me and my friend would turn on our most favorite episode, mute it and try to dub it watching the subtitles. This not only increased my vocabulary but enabled to speed up as I was required to catch up with the pace of the sequence. After doing this with for a period of three months I was able to notice the changes and so I kept on doing it regularly. Now after giving CAT and attending the interviews of some premier institutes, it also enabled me to convert them and got me into SJMSOM- IIT Bombay. Never really imagined out of all the things Netflix would come to my aid.
