As I sit at my desk, trying to articulate my thoughts regarding the150 year old Fortune 500 corporation employing over 120,000 employees spread across 42 nationalities, I am hit by a wave of nostalgia involving my admission process at Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi. I picture myself going to the Pantaloons showroom, searching for a good pair of formals from Peter England (which offers me the best fit), as well as a dark suit from Van Heusen, which will soon become an intricate part of my life, at least for the next two years. Thoughts drive me towards my numerous visits to the store on various other important occasions, which make me realize how Aditya Birla Group has been beside me in my journey.
This is just one instance of Aditya Birla Group being an integral part of one’s life. Many will recall the company when they look at their house, and remember how they ensured that it was constructed using Ultratech Cement. Many will also recall the company while recharging their IDEA (currently Vodafone-Idea) pre-paid /post-paid schemes, which provide network connection across the country.
Apart from this, Aditya Birla Group has presence in a variety of sectors such as Banking, Carbon Black manufacturing, Financial Services, Metals, Textiles, Trading and Chemicals. Hindalco Industries Limited is the metals flagship company of Aditya Birla Group. It is the world's largest aluminum rolling company and is also a leading producer of copper. Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Limited (ABPB) is a full-service digital bank, offering innovative banking features like mobile number as bank account number, ‘One Bank PIN’ across wallet/savings account/BHIM ABPB UPI, cashless transactions and interactive bank statements.
Thus, it can be concluded that Aditya Birla Group is indeed “Big in my life”, as well as of many others.
Never say no to learning: My Story
I believe that the key to making an impact is to have a comprehensive and dynamic goal in mind, along with the perseverance to face the impeding obstacles along the way.
I am a Tamilian, born in Madurai but brought up in Vadodara, Gujarat. My father has pursued post-graduation in Chemical Engineering, thereafter working in core engineering throughout his professional life. Born and raised in such a rich academic background, I developed good quantitative skills, performed well academically and developed an inclination towards engineering. Combining the same with dedication, discipline and a factor of luck, I cleared JEE 2009 with AIR 777 and decided to pursue Dual Degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras.
Considering my interest in mechanical engineering, especially thermal engineering I joined the Research and Development(Oil and Gas vertical) of a premier engineering company, where the focus was on troubleshooting of technical issues ,development of internal capabilities as well as process optimization. However due to change in corporate direction (based on oil crisis and other issues) the focus shifted towards project execution and sales generation.
The future of any company, even if its profile is of research and development, is based on the decisions of the core management team. I feel that by taking prudent managerial decisions on behalf of the company, I would be able to revive its performance even in the most adverse of situations, thus adding more value to the organization. In order to hone my managerial skills and develop the business acumen to achieve the above mentioned goal, I decided to pursue MBA.
I managed a good performance in CAT 2017(98.2 overall) in first attempt along with handling office work with few leaves and no sabbatical, during a period of transfer to a new location. After undergoing the interview process, I secured my admission in DMS, IIT Delhi thus achieving my ambition overcoming significant challenges along the way.
