Needs, wants and demands are the basic part of our everyday life. These three terms are indispensable for any company aiming for reaching out to consumers and expanding their businesses. In 21
st century building strong relationships with consumers is crucial for long term survival of brands. Thus, the Aditya Birla Group with its illustrious history of over 162 years has successfully implemented this idea. Being among the top three largest Indian private sector conglomerate it has a diverse portfolio of companies spreading across Banking, Branded Apparel, Cement, Metals, Mining etc. sectors. My first memory of touchpoint with ABG was back in my school days, when my mother used to wrap freshly cooked hot meals for my tiffin. The shiny film of sheet she used to cover the food coming out from a roll did indeed kept my food fresh and healthy. Thus, the name Freshwrapp. Fast-forward to the present day, upon receiving interview calls for my dream colleges the first thing I did was to rush to my nearest Pantaloons Store. Brands like Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly and Peter England became closely associated with me for my formal requirements. ABG rightly identified the need of segmentation and hence have been successful in targeting both high and low spending consumers. Finally, the mergers and acquisitions are the boats to survive the rough seas which in turn leads to better service quality for the consumers. The merging of Vodafone India and Idea to become the largest telecom operator of India is the testimony to that mission.
Challenges and failures are part and parcel of every individual. Even though we say that failure is the pillar of success. I have noticed that, in our country every failure is looked down upon by the people and successes are magnified. During the initial couple of years of my undergraduate program, I was directionless about what I wanted in life. As a result, I did poor academically which led me to a stage of self-doubting my strengths. I reflected and realised my shortcomings. For me, it was all about making the choices and choosing paths which suited my needs with time. From a mere 5 CGPA till third year to 6.67 CGPA in my final semester my journey ended. It’s not the highest, but the journey to it has made me confident, energised and gave a sense of belief in myself. Taking the positives from bad experiences always helps in moving ahead. The drive which led to my improvement was my desire to get into a good B-School. The mistake we all do is following other people’s footsteps by witnessing their achievements. Everyone is a customized package of skills, ideas and vision. Identifying the inner me helped me to work towards my goal of reaching where I am today.
