“The days can go on with regularity over and over, one day indistinguishable from the next. A long continuous chain. Then suddenly, there is a change.”
-Travis Bickle, Taxi Driver (1976). This refreshing quote from one of my favorite films of all time is a motivation for anyone who has a mountainous task ahead of them. Or at least, it was to me.
Just like thousands of students every year, I was working for an Information Technology giant before coming to a B-school. Although I was relatively Junior to my colleagues, I had started to take more responsibilities at work and voluntarily asked for Ownership of tasks. Eventually, I was answerable to all these tasks and had to stay in the office for more time than I used to, during this time frame. Unfortunately, this coincided with the time I was rigorously preparing for the MBA entrance exams and it took a serious toll on my preparations as well as my personal life.
Doing things half-heartedly was never going to work. Without some real effort and enthusiasm, the task that faced me was unconquerable. It’s either life or death, there is no middle ground. I had two choices- Do my job well or MBA. But why does it always had to be a choice? Why not both? I did not want to leave the organization after having failed in my last task as an employee of it. At the same time, I was not willing to give up on my dream.
Knowing that the added work pressure should not and would not be taken as an excuse for my poor performance in the exam, I pushed hard even after overtime at the office. It was intense, agonizing, distressing and whatnot. It was not easy, but I persevered. Thanks to this, I was able to deliver extremely well at work and had received good appraisals and several appreciations for all my efforts. I also got the opportunity to lead a 3-member team for the last 6 months of my job. I also converted IIM Visakhapatnam, and there came ‘The Change’.
Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?
Aditya Birla Group is a visionary when it comes to propelling Indian Conglomerates into the world MNC picture. The best word to describe them would be ‘Omnipresent’- they are everywhere whether we realize it or not. From the clothes that we wear, to the buildings we live in, to the video calls with our distant family, Aditya Birla Group has a huge share in our daily life and day to day activities. The group is an inspiration to everything an Indian Company wants to be and has become synonymous with the term “market leader” across several lines of their business among customers around the world.
ABG has been a continual presence throughout my life, ever since I did not know what ABG was and what it is all about. The first memory of an ABG product was their brilliant viral marketing campaign “What an Idea Sirji!”. It was the time when Idea Cellular was making waves in the telecom market and I fell for it to the extent that I snubbed established service providers for Idea. This was one of the very first lessons of Marketing that I learnt.
A foray into the Aditya Birla Group world would take you to the excellent work done by them in improving people’s lives across India through their CSR activities. By providing essentials like Health, Education, Electricity, and Food, ABG has been there for every need of a common man from the lower echelons of society. Aditya Birla Group deserves huge credit for bringing the much needed ‘Change’ and breaking the continuous chain of dark, gloomy and indistinguishable days of people’s lives.
