Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
Aditya Birla Group (ABG), one of the most renowned names among Indians and worldwide is an Indian multinational conglomerate. The group which was founded by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla in 1857 now operates in 35 countries with over 1.2 million employees across the world. It has a strong presence in the world as 50% of group revenues come from countries other than India. ABG with a US $44.3 billion revenue is in the league of fortune 500. Aditya Birla Group consists of 38 companies including some big names like Aditya Birla Capital Limited, Ultra Tech Cement Limited, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail. It has touched almost every segment of my life ranging from fashion accessories to binding element of my house(cement) and a lot more.
From childhood, I had the wrong perception that Pantaloons is owned and managed by some foreign company and even the most renowned brands like Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly are some foreign brands. But I was astonished to know that these all are Indian brands.
One of the most astonishing facts about ABG is how seriously it takes the responsibility of making the world a better place. Hindalco Novelis recycles 65 million cans every year. Also, through its CSR activities, ABG had a positive impact on so many sectors of society, be it education, health care, removing poverty, dowry-less marriage, etc.
ABG had created a strong influence in the lives of millions through its CSR activities and providing quality products and services to the world.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
There are 3 factors that have made me successful and have helped me achieve all my ambitions till now. They are:
1. Perseverance
2. Accountability
3. Commitment
In life, I have created goals and divided them into smaller ones. When I decided to pursue B.Tech my only ambition was to excel in every aspect be it academics or extracurricular. From the start itself, I was determined that I have the ability to be the topper in my branch which I consistently achieved in the course of 4 years in B.Tech. There have been situations where I failed to perform up to my expectations but I always believed in my strengths and capabilities. All these helped me become the branch topper consistently for 4 years. Along with academics I was actively involved in handling responsibilities of being the Placement Coordinator, Coordinator of Student Senate and President of the Photography Cell.
The major challenge came during CAT preparation when I was working in a reputed IT company. There my shift timings were from 1 PM to 10 PM and I was also loaded with work on weekends. So, there was hardly any time left for preparations. I always aspired to be in one of the top B-schools in India especially an IIM. But this takes a lot of time and effort. I tried to manage my time by waking up early in the morning and to take out 2-3 hours daily for QA, DI and LR preparations. Also, I knew that scoring a good percentile in CAT is just half work done rest is giving good performance in GD/WAT and PI which needs a regular reading of news articles. For this, I tried to take out some time in the office daily by finishing my work asap. This is how I managed to score a good percentile in CAT and got admission in one of the most prestigious B-school of the country – IIM Kashipur.
