Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
“Aditya Birla Group: Taking India to the World”- Being a 12-year old and empathically listening to this advertisement on Television is still pretty much visible in my memory and gives me goose bumps every time. Back then, I didn’t know what all was flashing on the screen but with time, I have realised that there was a part of me who had been using all these products from Aditya Birla Group of companies unknowingly. Be it my mother’s favourite aluminium foil “Freshwrapp” from Hindalco which she used to pack a tasty tiffin box for me to seeing my dad dress up in Business Formals from “Van Heusen” for his office meeting, Aditya Birla has been a part and parcel of my life.
We all believe that digital is the way forward and I feel “Pantaloons” is the brand which introduced me to the digital payments world way before anyone else did. The convenience of gifting your sisters and relatives during festive season using Personalised Gift Cards and vouchers sitting at home on a couch without having the hassle to go and find clothes that would fit them was a sheer pleasure from the group! Attractive discounts on ethnic wears with hoardings of beautiful actresses added to the mix.
Growing up and early into a job is always coupled with the problem of taxes and subsequently, investments. Aditya Birla came to light here as well. With its mutual funds and life insurances doing great in the market, it was pretty easy for me to enter into an SIP without having much knowledge about finance. That’s how convenient Aditya Birla Finance website was with all the videos and tutorials.
Great businesses are never built on opportunism. I believe that if living by our values means growing at a slower pace than otherwise, then for us leadership lies at heart of knowing what we stand for.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
“Be versatile in a volatile world”- The words have always reverberated in my mind and as destiny aligns, I have been fortunate enough to implement the adage in my life. And I must profess that it has never been easy. Life puts challenges in front of you at each and every stage and how one faces and overcomes them is a story in itself. Starting from the zeal to study in a top engineering college of the country to working for India’s wealthiest man, it has been a roller coaster journey so far.
Being pampered and nurtured in a joint family from childhood, I was brought up in Delhi and it was pretty difficult for me initially to join a core engineering job straight after my graduation in a different state with people belonging to different cultures and religions speaking regional languages. They would leave no chance to criticize a newbie. However, my persistence helped me overcome this acceptance issue. With every progressing day, I worked with them and treated them with respect they deserved but didn’t get, I learnt the necessity of empathising with people. However, soon after my training period was completed, I was thrust into the thick of things being offered the role of a Manager handling a team of 6 members. I proactively grabbed the opportunity as it required dealing with people from all fields of life: contractors, new leaders, technology suppliers, external agencies and vice president of sites. This helped me improve my communication skills. One of my strengths has always been the flexibility to adapt. This helped me during the major refinery shutdown at the world’s biggest petrochemical complex, Jamnagar. Working in shifts 12 hours a day tested my patience and from there came in an insight which led me to start preparing for my MBA. The goal of becoming the Production Manager of the plant. I managed both my job and entrance exam preparations simultaneously. And here I am today pursuing my Business Management course at XIMB. All these events and ambitions have helped me transform myself into a better individual as a whole.
