I’m sure all of us have said or heard someone saying "Oh wow! That office is really cool and very pretty, and I wish I worked there!" This is precisely why aesthetics of the work environment are very important. We usually overlook the impact aesthetics have on employees. Colour Theorist have spoken at length about how important it is to choose the right colour for a particular space and how it does have a positive impact, not just on our mood, but our productivity levels as well. Even though slowly and steadily employers are making an effort to make sure that their office spaces are conducive to their employees, not much has been seen in the Indian context regarding the same. This could partly be because the mindset of the majority still needs a gradual shift from thinking that ‘people will work as they are being paid for’ to ‘people should enjoy their work and feel good at their workplace’. It is, of course, true that ‘beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.' But I believe it is very important that one should ‘beautify’ their office space and by this, I do not mean that the employers need to burn a hole in their pockets. Simple and subtle changes are what is needed and important. Sometimes when these topics are brought out, people (employers or employees) usually shun it by saying that it a western concept and it does not apply in India. But that is not true. After all, who does not like working in a beautiful and conducive environment? Office with scenic views as well as high-quality indoor environments could help employees become more productive, research suggests. Most may not realize the importance of this but studies have shown that aesthetics can, not just help improve the productivity levels of the employees but also improve their mood and help them feel happier at the workplace. In today’s times with statistics showing an increase in all psychological, physical and psycho-social diseases due to stress, anxiety, job demand, lack of flow etc., it becomes all the more important have a happy and a vibrant workspace. So it is very important to make sure that the office looks goods and feels good for everyone who is working there.   References: Huffington Post Forbes India
