Our old house was built in late 80s by my grandfather. I have lived there for 20 years of my life. Back in those days, architects were not properly consulted and there was limited choice of products available in the market. The terrace of the house was not built with proper slope and nobody paid heed to it. for years, whenever it rained, the water would not drain down properly and kept seeping into the beam due to poor slope and unknown cement quality. One day during my vacation, I was sitting in the room and watching TV when I started hearing a faint noise. I didn't pay much attention , but slowly the noise intensified. It was a dragging and cracking kind of sound. Unable to figure out what is happening, I ignored it. Suddenly the ceiling fan made a creaking sound and i looked up. To my horror, the ceiling was cracking and all the bulk was losing grip of the beam. I rushed out and called my parents. they too were terrified and we ran to our neighbors for help. Luckily there was construction work going on at their house and they sent labourers and bamboos to support the structure. It was a temporary relief because two days later the structure came down anyway. I was feeling insecure in my own home and similar noise would scare me. Then our neighbors advised us to rebuild with Birla Cement. For them it was tried and tested so my father used it for reconstruction of ceiling. The new structure was evidently strong and secure. When we decided to move to a new house, Birla cement was used again for the whole structure. With consultation of proper architect and use of Birla cement, the house stood strong. Those cracking noises didn't scare me anymore. My family felt safe and ensured that this is definitely a brand we can trust and it has got us covered in the right way.
B) How I Overcame A Hurdle To Follow My Ambition
Luckily I have not faced many hurdles in life. When I graduated from college , I had a small goal in life. To give my parents a memorable gift as a thank you souvenir for being the best part of my life. But I had declined my job offer because I didn't want to work in IT industry. I started with intensive job search and landed into HR related job. I was a recruiter for US IT staffing company. I liked the profile but I it was a target oriented job. I had to get my candidates placed to meet my target. I put in the best of my ability as i had secured this job after great effort and I valued it. Also I had to save up for my parents' gift with my incentives so kept pushing. Somehow I was not getting through. The candidates kept getting rejected at client site. With each of candidate, I felt that a part of me is also getting rejected. I was breaking down emotionally. Then a colleague of mine sat down with me once and told me how she faced the similar difficulty when she had joined. She gave me her golden words, "don't be hopeful, but be positive". I imbibed it and gathered my strength to start again with a fresh mind. My little goal encouraged me. Things were slow for me. But my account manager was observing my effort since the beginning, and felt that I was not achieving what I deserved. So as an appreciation and acknowledgement of my hardwork, a candidate who joined our client was placed in my name. I was delighted. Not just because I got a placement, but rather because it was a reward from my management. After all, my effort did not go in vain. Also, with the incentive and my savings up till then, i gifted my parents a trip to Dubai on their 25th anniversary. I achieved my first small goal despite all emotional and procedural barriers.
