A Pharmacist wanting to build a career in Marketing Management is rare. ‘After four years of rigorous paramedical studies, are you sure you want to take up a commerce profession?’ ‘Do you not want to gain some experience in formulation and research? After all, all your contemporaries are doing just that!’ ‘What about your grades? You’ve outshone your peers; Pharmacy is definitely made for you!’
With a blank slate and a big dream, I chose a path least taken by freshly graduated pharmacists. I started my preparation for entrance exams of management colleges.
While thousands of candidates nationwide opt for Pharmaceutical Management as an obvious path after a graduation in Pharmacy, I decided to build a career in what interested me the most- Marketing, but, in an open playground. Consistency and commitment are two key qualities that got me to clear CET and secure admission in one of Mumbai University’s top B-schools, SIMSREE.
My natural inclination towards marketing topped with the dedication of reading plenty of articles every day on various marketing campaigns, brands and innovations, got me an opportunity to intern with Reliance Jio Studios. For the first time in my academic life, I was doing something that aligned with my passion and made me look forward to every single project that I worked upon, only because I showed the will to walk on a less explored path.
I strongly believe, in doing something unconventional, it is important to first make a plan, but it is even more important to stick to that plan, irrespective of the adversities.
