After completing his graduation in his home state of Assam, Mrinmoy Roy was looking for industry exposure to pursue his management dreams. While doing his research about B Schools, he came across JK Business School and the reputation that precedes it. Thus began the journey of “self-discovery” as he calls it, which has led to a placement with Transport Corporation of India Ltd., a big name in the world of transport and logistics. Here, he sheds light on his journey and how it has prepared him for his life as a professional.
For a young man from Assam, it was definitely a big deal to bag such a prestigious job. So, it is only natural that Mrinmoy was thrilled on hearing the news: “I immediately called my parents and was so happy that I could make them proud. My family background has moulded me and is an important part of who I am today. JK Business School then offered me the exposure to the industry and turned me into a professional by putting the finishing touches on my education. They are the two main contributing factors in my life so far”.
Mrinmoy has been placed as a Business Development Officer with TCI and is looking forward to making his mark with the big name company. “My role as a BDO will give me plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and establish myself”, he says. “My responsibilities would be to improve the organization’s market position and achieve financial growth, identify business opportunities, negotiate and close business deals and maintain extensive knowledge of current market conditions and to build strong relationships with clients”.
Today, Mrinmoy remains aware of the challenges ahead but is confident enough to take them on. For him that’s because of the confidence instilled in him by his institute: “JK Business School is like family to me. The learning environment here is fantastic and the institute encourages creativity and individuality. This is really a unique platform for challenging brainstorming and intellectual exchanges”. It is clear that Mrinmoy appreciates everything that’s different from one level or another.
The young man from Assam also makes a special mention of his faculty team that supported him throughout his academic stint at the institute and offered rigorous training during the placement season. “Our faculty members are brilliant; we could meet them freely and discuss anything under the Sun with them”, he says gratefully. “They helped us to a great extent during the placement process by organizing special workshops to boost our skills and prepare us. I would like to give them credit for my placement with TCI”.
Now that Mrinmoy has gone through the process himself and is on the cusp of making his mark as a professional, does he have any advice for his juniors at the institute? Without batting an eyelid he says, “I would like to tell them to take their classroom training seriously. But at the same time I would ask them to ramp up their participation in various activities. Hold on to your dreams and work towards them; the institute offers you training to become a leader no matter what you choose to do.” These are sound words coming from a young man who is well on his way to achieving his career goals.
