Abhyudaya is such an event at IFMR for which each and every member of the IFMR fraternity eagerly awaits throughout the entire year. It’s a platform for not only showcasing your skills and abilities in front of hundreds of visitors coming from other MBA colleges across the country but also, it is a test of mettle for the organizer clubs and committees. Sanchalan, the newest born baby and IT & Operations Committee of IFMR, was eager to make the most of this grand opportunity to make its presence felt in the MBA community. And consequently, we, the member of Sanchalan, had started preparing for our Abhyudaya event since as early as mid-October! In the next three months, although we were able to publish the first edition of our biannual e-magazine (The Opsessed), periodical IT-OPS digest AND conduct an Online Pan-India Quiz and Case Study Competition (Brain Crunch), the Abhyudaya event was always on the focus. Thoughts behind the “Battle of the Axis” As soon as the theme for Abhyudaya’18 was declared (the theme was Melange), we decided that for our event, to commemorate the diversity of Melange, the countries we would be focusing on would be Germany and Japan. Germany and Japan have been two such countries who continue to take immense pride in the orderly manner their business operations are carried out till date. What could have been a better name for an event comprising of the Axis Power nations? Event Details The event comprised of three rounds: The first round was an Online Quiz Competition (Imibuzo) which acted as the eliminator. The second round was focused on the German Operations while the third round was aimed towards Japanese Operational Strategies. The second and third rounds were on-campus rounds. 239 Students from MBA colleges including the IIMs, IITs and top B-schools across the country registered for the event in a team of 2 or 3. For the on-campus rounds, 8 teams were shortlisted. This round was focused on the aspects of decision making as well as problem-solving. A famous German organization was under threat of hacking/theft of data by a powerful and intelligent gang of thieves. The participating teams were required to work either as management or group of thieves to achieve their respective objectives. In this round, the participating teams were divided into either a management team or gang of thieves based on a random draw. The round contained seven rounds altogether and each round the participants were required to make a decision for an underlying scenario. However, the trick was that for each decision the participants would make, they would have to solve a corresponding puzzle correctly to reach the next level.Since the idea of the event was quite unique, the participants initially found it difficult to comprehend. However, Sanchalan volunteers made sure that the event would go on without any major discrepancy. Operations is about creating efficient sustainability and managing change. The teams were given a business problem set in Nagasaki, Japan and were required to develop a new system design or redesign the existing system in order to increase efficiency and sustainability. The teams were required to make a presentation of 7 minutes each explaining their solution to the problem in front of the judges. We had the privilege of hosting Mr. Rajaram Venkataraman, Mr. Pramod Kumar, and Prof Ramkumar Dhurkari for giving the judgment to this round. Result of the Event The winner of the event was team G.O.A.T from DoMS, IIT Madras, based on the cumulative score of both the rounds. The Enlighteners from WE School, Mumbai and Erudite from IFMR were the first and second runners-up respectively. Responses and Feedback The general feedback from the participants regarding the event was that they learned to manage their time efficiently in order to showcase their presentation as well as problem-solving skills. As per the collected feedback data, more than 70% of the participants have said that the event came up with a unique idea, relevant content, adequate information and clarity of objectives. While we believe that there is scope for improvement, but at the same time, for a debutant committee these data appeared to be bright. For the successful completion of the event, we are most thankful to our official sponsors InterviewBuddy, The Souled Store, and MotivateBox. The way the Abhyudaya Committee, Alcom (Alumni Committee of IFMR) and the Shutterbugs (Photography Club of IFMR) cooperated with us during the event was impeccable. The most significant point about the event was that the cases that were used for both the on-campus rounds were the brain product of Sanchalan team members only!  We look forward to carrying this legacy of being creative with original contents in the future events as well. Sanchalan, IFMR
