How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far.
After graduating in Bachelor of Business Administration from Christ University Bangalore. I got a job in one of the most coveted retailers in the world, Target Corp. I joined as an Associate Business Analyst and soon worked up to the ladder as a Lead Specialist. With professional life clicking well for me I was enjoying this new challenging phase with lots of zeal and passion. My hard work got me recognition as well as laurels from the company in the form of the Director’s award and an outstanding contributor to the department award. And here, after all, this came a bump, the most challenging part of my life. I started getting slight nerve pain in the left leg which I ignored. Soon things turned a bit serious and I was feeling little numb on my face. Finally, I get to know that I am diagnosed with bell’s palsy and strictly recommended complete rest until things get back to normal. Here I am on the crossroads with one end having a promising career with a dream company and on the other side is a looming serious health hazard. With not having many options I take the second road and decide to resign to prevent any further damage to my health. In three months, from a really promising career, I end up being jobless in my hometown. With a lot of dejection, I try to find ways in which I could utilize this sudden void in my life. I start with Yoga and physiotherapy as rehabilitation and other organic ways to detox my body and get back to full health. The other thing I start is utilizing the free time to study for MBA entrances, so that the time I am spending here doesn’t go in vain. With many low mock scores and sudden health onslaughts, I find it a journey tough to complete. But somehow, I still stay on the track to complete the journey for self-motivation. Things slowly start to get better with my health, through the practice of daily yoga, physiotherapy, and healthy habits. The same starts to reflect in my mock scores. Finally, the D day arrives and I get a respectable score to get a call from almost all the colleges I applied for. I give interviews, facing the year gap questions with honesty and finally land up in one of the premier B-schools of the country, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. There when I am entering college, I go back full circle and smile to myself for actually not giving up and landing here. Because this story would be my motivation to overcome many more challenges for life. It helps when in our life we are our own heroes at certain important junctures.
