PART A: Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life.
Having been brought up in Rajasthan, I got familiar with the name ‘Birlas’ very early on in my life. From temple to planetarium, Birla Group contributed to the infrastructure of Jaipur significantly.
Aditya Birla Group, headed by Mr. Kumar Mangalam, is now ten times larger, with a current net worth of ₹2.68 lakh crore, than what it was when he took charge. Group’s businesses are spread across various industries namely aluminium, copper, cement, textiles (pulp, fibre, yarn, fabric, and branded apparel), carbon black, insulators, natural resources, solar power, agribusiness, telecommunications, financial services, retail, and trading.
Grasim Industries Limited, the textile manufacturer of the ABG, started in 1947 in India and since then it has grown into an eminent global player. In 2015 they introduced “LIVA”, a clothing brand - “fluid fashion” as they call it. It’s a naturally created fabric and also eco-friendly.
What’s more stylish than wearing fashion with pride of preserving mother nature! #FEELSGREENFEELSGREAT.
“The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress” (Hubert de Givenchy). I was moved when I first read this statement, as I have faced weight issues throughout my teenage. LIVA is a customer-friendly brand that believes in celebrating every curve of a human body with its breathable and comfortable clothes and yes with no compromise on fashion too.
"What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language." (Miuccia Prada). LIVA clothes ooze confidence when you wear them be it maxi skirts, designer palazzos or sarees. There are hints of what you are in what you wear and I being both an environmental activist and a fashion freak always needed something that’s not harsh on nature and finally, there is a brand with a conscience because of the ABG that always innovates with a purpose of having a BIG impact.
PART B: How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far
Rajasthan – what comes in your mind when you read this - Culture? Traditions? Child Marriage? Women Education? Yes, education! I hail from a conservative family in which the onus to carry the dignity of the family is on the shoulders of a girl child. I completed my education up to graduation in Jaipur itself, my hometown. When I got selected in IIM Trichy for higher education my family except for my mother, was reluctant of the idea of me leaving the state. My mother – the lady who supported my dream throughout, went against her husband, her in-laws just to fulfill my dream, that took one month of convincing from her and my part. Imagine when you have to struggle even for studying and that too in one of the top management institutes of the country. The problem is a lack of education and societal norms that are still holding back the growth of women in our country. A lot has improved over the years but what really needed is the change of mindset. Today, I am here studying at IIM Trichy with the best minds of the country and writing this article, I still have the dreams of being big in corporate world but I also want to become my mother; woman who will help other girls to fulfill their dreams just like my mother did for me; a woman who will change the mindsets about education and women rights. I got the opportunity at the age of 20 but I want other girls to have it well before as this is their basic right.
