So, let me walk you through the most impactful day of my professional career. Before starting let me brief you on a few things. I worked with Deloitte for about 2.5 years and every year we celebrated a day known as
‘Impact Day’ organized by HR team. This day is Deloitte’s commitment to local communities. All the professionals spend the entire working day on one or the other social activities like teaching government school children, helping disabled people, cleaning the environment, planting trees etc. just like Aditya Birla group impacting many lives of people in many different areas like agriculture, retail, manufacturing etc.
So, November 24, 2017 was my first Impact day at the company. We all were divided into different groups for different tasks and given instructions. The enthusiasm was at peak for all the employees to do something different and make the real impact. We, the new ones were curious about all the proceedings of the day. I was in the team,
‘The Wings’ which had to teach students of government school.
When I reached the school, I was shaken by the infrastructure the school had. The building was not properly built. I felt so lucky to have my education in such premium school with all the facilities, one of the most important areas where Aditya Birla creates impact with its product, Ultratech Cement. We started the day meeting children in different classrooms. Through their introductions I got to know that most of their family income came from agriculture, the area where Aditya Birla invests by training farmers, providing loans etc. Now, we started teaching them different subjects one after the other. I was so amazed that a few children had such good aspirations to do something big in life and were starving to have good teachers who could guide them to shape their career. One of the children even wanted to tour around the world pointing towards the world map. My inside me felt so proud to be the teaching staff for that day. I really hope that the child gets to tour the world in the lavish hotels managed by Aditya Birla. To bring the difference we made them learn via small videos as well. The children were so engaged by the digital format of learning, again a very important area where Aditya Birla invests. We also taught them on how to keep their environment clean, also valued by the Aditya Birla group. At the end of the day, the team had a picture with the children and started distributing the goodies to them. The goodies comprised of stationery, clothes from pantaloons (Aditya Birla retail store), refreshments etc.
When I left for the day, I felt so satisfied and happy. I could feel the impact I created on those children. I made a pact with myself to teach a few unprivileged children in future after I complete my studies at free of cost. I definitely want to be as impactful as Aditya Birla Group is in our lives.
