Quantitative Ability (QA) section in the CAT exam can daunt a few non-engineers but trust me, if you work hard in this section, it is the most predictable one and you can easily be through. The only two factors that matter in this section are -
Speed and Accuracy. Let's check out a few resources that will help you excel this section in CAT 2020:
- A Comprehensive Cheat Sheet For Quantitative Ability For MBA Entrance Exams: This is an evergreen blog and comes very handy especially in the last few days before the exam. It contains the formulae for all the topics: Number System, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration etc. You can bookmark that article or just note down all the formulae that you think might be useful. Please don't be daunted by the list of formulas, it's an exhaustive list and sometimes not all formulae will come into use.
- How An Average Student Scored 98.5+ Quantitative Ability Percentile In Two Consecutive CAT Attempts: "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail". Sometimes knowing what NOT to do is more important than what to do, and both the aspects have been covered well in this article. It also highlights the importance of staying calm and good sleep and some more tips to help you such as the number of questions to attempt, knowing when to leave a question etc. that will help you score well overall.
- Things You Can Follow To Score 99+ Percentile In Quant: This article by an IMT Ghaziabad student gives an estimate of the number of questions from different topics, the level of difficulty of the questions from each topic and a few tips to increase your speed in solving the questions of Quantitative Ability section. One of the best parts is that whether you are an engineer or a non-engineer, this one will help you equally well.
- CAT Tricks By A 99.97%er - Series 1 On Quant | Nikhil Kedia, IIM Ahmedabad: This one is a quick read but I felt it will be quite helpful for the aspirants. There are some unique strategies and tips in here that could prove useful for some.
Final Tip from my end would be not to let your performance in other sections affect this section. Start every section with a fresh mind. If you perform extremely well in one of the sections, it can improve your overall percentile and QA can be one of those sections if solved well. Also, one size doesn't fit all. So if you don't feel confident and comfortable in adapting to a new strategy, don't over-push or be hard on yourself to do so in the last month. It can bring a lot of stress to your mind, which is harmful in these times.
There is a lot of uncertainty this year with everything, along with the exam pattern changing for the exam. But there is no need to panic. The only golden rule you should follow for this section:
Practice! Hope this article helps.
All the Best!
