Bharanidharan has been chosen as one of the top 30 most employable candidates across schools and programmes in India for the Class of 2015. He has one of the best 30 profiles among the 66 final round candidates who participated in the
Best50 competition. The final 30 were chosen based on a combination of scores for the write-up below and the candidate’s resume.
What have you done at your business school which makes you stand out from the crowd?
The combination of things that I have done and the traits I have makes me stand apart, in my opinion.
An endeavor which started out as a logical progression to my stint at Ericsson, NITIE exposed me to one of the most competitive peer groups one could hope for. There were Assistant Managers, Managers from Indian PSUs like NTPC, SAIL and then there were people like me who had worked in MNCs like Siemens, Ericsson, Deloitte and then there were some really talented freshers as well. One of our earlier litmus tests was our selection into committees and because of my analytic thought process, communication skills and strong personality, I was able to get into one of the sought after destinations in any B-school - The Placement Committee. The experience and exposure I have had in these 18 months as part of this will stay with me for life and the taste of tackling numerous problems with some highly competitive and highly dedicated individuals is something which I will cherish. But it has not been only about that. I try to get the maximum out of my course at NITIE by engaging in competitions, experimenting with some challenging electives and also volunteering to do some live projects with firms of repute.
It is the amalgamation of these aspects that differentiates me from the other students around.
What have you done in your life that you are the most proud of?
The one thing that I am proud of is how I have been able to put myself in challenging positions and have been able to adapt and come out on top within a short span of time. It is not a question of a single incident but about making it a habit which makes me really confident in my abilities.
For instance, during my under-graduation course me and two of my friends took a lot of interest in participating in coding competitions and won accolades at various National and State level symposia. When we wanted to take it to the next level, we worked on an interesting idea aimed at making e-Learning adaptive and were awarded with the 2nd Prize in South Zone for our entry of the same in CII's innovator' 09.
Even at Ericsson, my interest to challenge myself and go beyond the ordinary helped me in working extensively with the Research team apart from my day to day responsibilities. This culminated in 3 International Publications which revolve around Social network mining, Customer churn reduction and behavior analysis.
If there was one good aspect about your school that you could take back after you graduate
Apart from the lush green fields which make our glorious campus and the memories which it has given me, if there is one thing which I appreciate about my institute, it is the
empowerment and control that it gives to her students. Students here are not forced to slog for hours doing something which they don't have an interest in. Our academic pedagogy while comprehensive still gives the students room for going the extra mile. Some of them engage in the numerous case study events; some of them in solving corporate problems through live projects while some of them concentrate on certifications like APICS, CFA etc.
If there was one thing that you could change about your business school, it would be -
There is not a lot that one would want to change about perfection ;) On a more serious note, if there is one thing which I'd like to change or rather improve about our school, it is the presence it has on a global front. Some of the best B-schools in the country have a concept of foreign exchange which brings with itself a lot of interesting experiences for the students during their interactions with students of various geographic origins. In today's internationalized world, these skills will go a long way in helping us students. Also, some of the campuses like SPJain and XLRI are establishing international campuses around the world which helps them acquire some of the best talents throughout the world rather than just from India. And because at a post-graduate level the learning is as much from the peer group as from the teachers, it augurs well when a student interacts on a global front.
If you had to open a rival social network to Facebook, what would it be like?
Rather than target the whole social world, for me it makes more sense to target a certain set of individuals with a common interest and slowly expand from there. My inherent interest in soccer and fitness makes me think about them as the first avenues for such an idea. For instance, today's average body builder has a lot of difficulty in getting relevant information from the vast expanse of the world wide web. And also when he/she shares a photo of his/her gains or goals, it is ridiculed upon by people who aren't interested. On the contrary, similar to Instagram which is a platform specific for photographs, I would seek to quench the interests of various fitness freaks in order to give them the right motivation and the community feeling that they share within the confines of a gym can be expanded to the whole wide world.
Who are you - Express yourself
I am your average joe who has a strong personality, work ethic and can grasp things quickly making me adaptable and confident. Oh, and I also love dogs, my bullet, Chelsea and often irritate people with my constant interest for gymming 8-)!
