ADITYA BIRLA GROUP
Aditya Birla Group has made its presence felt in everyone’s not only childhood days but also on reaching substantial ages. Ranging from a wide variety of brands to covering financial services and telecommunication, it has become an integral part of every person’s lives in some way or the other. With not only being the world’s top can recycler to being the largest cement manufacturer in India, it is difficult to not have association with a company that spans across 34 countries employing over 1,20,000 employees.
Covering the major contribution of this conglomerate in my life, Freshwrapp by Hindalco is something that no Indian family can imagine their ward going to school without. Also, on a personal front, I have seen my tastes and preferences evolve gradually from natural and eco-friendly product brands like Pantaloons to Van Heusen and Ted Baker. It is an implicit contract between customers and the company regarding tapping tastes and fulfilling requirements effortlessly whilst providing the best customer service.
We have seen this company evolve with transition in human choices. From presenting everything online to availing offline store facilities pan India, this company has not taken a step back when it comes to social services like working with MGNREGA and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana through which they reach 7.5 million people across 5,000 villages while providing midday meals to 74,000 children per day.
Since India’s independence, Grasim was incorporated wherein we saw this group gradually have its first carbon black company and India’s first national level business to focus on fashion and retail.
To sum up, Aditya Birla, in all ways, has been #BIGINMYLIFE.
HOW I HAVE HANDLED CHALLENGES
Having been born and brought up in a middle class joint family in Howrah, Kolkata, I have always been surrounded by competition. Since I was in the 5
th grade, I was always encouraged to take responsibility in whatever form available. The biggest turning point was when I became the captain of my school. I gradually started realising what leadership and teamwork meant.
One major challenge that I can enumerate is not on a personal front, but professionally. When I was working with the Quotes Welfare Society as a social worker, I had a task of pursuing 50 underprivileged parents to send their wards to schools (preferably the ones we were associated with). I was successful in encouraging only 39 among them. I failed to educate the rest because of very strong cultural differences and clash in opinions. When I think about my major challenges, this is the most crucial failure I enumerate.
Gradually having realised my knack for numbers I started working towards pursuing BBA and gradually, MBA in finance. The biggest challenge I have faced is surviving, currently. As a fresher, I have never lived out of my comfort zone. I have always had the physical backing of my parents in whatever I did.
Shifting in a new city at the age of 21, with no known faces was no less than a task. I could not manage interacting with people, survival became very difficult. But I had always worked for this stage in life. So I kept pushing myself, did everything to not lose my individuality and finally, I can say that I am “adaptable” when it comes to the challenges that will be thrown at me ahead.
